    2011 Growers Thread

    Chili time

Growing them inside this year but I may give some to my parents to pop in their greenhouse.

    Varieties:

    • Trinidad Scorpion
    • Tepin*
    • Fatalii
    • Bhut Jolikia*
    • Khorika Jolikia
    • Mem Jolikia
    • 7 Pot
    • Chocolate Bhut Jolikia*
    • Fresno
    • Anaheim*
    • Rokita
    • Jalapeno
    • Red Cherry
    • Aji Crystal
    • Hungarian Hot Wax

    *still to germinate

Started them off in a cheapy B&Q electric propagator, some in peat pellets and some in root riot cubes, placed up against an electric heater to hopefully get up to around 28-30 C.

Once they sprouted straight under a 2 tube fluorescent light, repotted into 3" square pots when roots were poking out of the bottom.

And now under the mother of all lights, a 600W sodium discharge.

Might have a play with hydroponics as well.

And there was I going to put up a new thread because I thought I was ahead of the game this year

I've just planted Trinity (40,000 SHU habanero type) and Rooster Spur (168,000 SHU Birds Eye type). They're in a heated propagator to get them started and then the windowsill will have to do. Sticking to 2 varieties this year as they overwhelmed me last year.

Yipppeeee chilli time. I still have 1x3 year old well established Naga, 1 x 1 year old Naga, 2 x 2 year old peach habanero and 1x 3 year old twilight. These are the ones that survived 'overwintering'. The rest got too cold and split.
I have saved the best pods I could from last year to use as my seed stock.
These consist of more Naga (bastard hot ones that destroyed polo post jae lol), more peach hab, Thai finger chili, banana chili and an unknown one I was given.

You boys have put me to shame, need to get a shift on and get planting.
The established, but heavily cut down ones I've got should grow uber quick though, huuuuge root balls

I bought some home from a chilli festival a few weeks back, collected the seeds out of the them and plan to plant them soon. I'll get up some pictures when they're underway.

    They are:
    - Khorika Jolikia
    - Purple Tiger
    - Habanero Luciferino
    - Tricolour Variegata
    - and three other types I don't know what they are

Sorry, but is this thread only chilli's? My avocado tree I planted a few weeks ago is looking good

Surely it's not just me thinking that this year is the year that SXOC chilli growers get their door's broken down by the drug squad? :-D

Right, so for us lazy folks who don't have time / space / inclination to play with sodium lamps and hydroponics / the drug squad ... when should we be planting seedlings?

I've not started anything yet - there is too much garden to clear and landscape, and that can't be done until I have finished the inside of Aitch Towers

Seeing as the mrs is cooking all of our daughters food instead of crap filled packet shit we are growing broccoli, red cabbage, onions, butternut squash, parsnips and potato (sweet & normal)

Sure there is some more but these are the ones in the trays on the window cill atm

Got a vine to plant in the garden when the weather warms a bit and the usual tomatoes, green beans etc

Shes going to be busy this year. Will need to get some chillis to keep in the kitchen too me thinks.

Spaghetti squash could be a fun one to try.

Has anyone else 'over wintered' this year??
    Here's my Naga
    [IMG][/IMG]

    Numex twighlight
    [IMG][/IMG]

    Peach habanero
    [IMG][/IMG]

Now the weathers getting better these should have a massive head start on newly potted seeds

Couldn't resist buying a few more varieties if chilli seeds:

    Today bought: cayenne
Sweet banana (the ones like you get with your kebabs)
    Apache

    To go with: Peach hab
    Birds eye
    Thai finger
    Scotch bonnet
    Bhut naga
    Twighlight
    Unknown breed
    Another funky yellow unknown type

Can't bloody wait for this lot

Will have far too many plants if this years like last year so will give a load away to anyone in the local area

    You guys started mega early
I kept a pepper plant over winter and it looks sorry for itself. No signs of growth yet. I also have a jalapeno from last year that's doing OK but the flowers keep dropping off due to lack of light. There is only 1 small fruit on it at the mo.

I have given up with trying to grow stuff under artificial light as it's not eco friendly and costs a bloody fortune in leccy 250W sodium vapour lamps are not cheap to run when it comes to the fruiting cycle. If you want one, I might have one for sale

Roll on summer... I have gone mad with the strawbs this year
