car cuts out when at speed!

got an s14a rev's freely & bounces off the limiter when standing no problem pulls hard in 1st & reverse off the spot soon as u hit around 10-15mph cuts out. towed the car back from where it broke down & even when on tick over soon as you tow it past 10-15mph cuts out.

would imagine its a faulty speed sensor? where are they located on the car? wheel/gearbox?

VSS is located in the back of the gearbox, drivers side. Pull the wire from it and try your test again.

It will isolate the VSS from the electrical system, in case there is some bizarre fault with it or the clocks.
If it doesn't cut out after that you know where to look, maybe try disconnecting the cluster or pulling the speed link to the ecu - that kind of thing.

swapped out the speed sensor & zero differance! disconnected the clocks & it works again lol , i have a spare set to try later on to see if its actually the clocks themself that are faulty.

the clocks provide the digital signal to the ecu for speed limiter..

you could also just chop pin 53.. yellow green.

Maybe just my opinion, but if your hitting the rev limiter on standstill,i think you'll be looking for a new engine soon!

You only need two tools in life - wd-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the wd-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

And if you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem!

cool, that is another option then. is this an uncommon issue?
