Well I'm not really in Bishop, I'm actually up on the moors between Bishop and Staindrop over towards Butterknowle area. Don't need to go anywhere tomorrow but even if I did it wouldn't bother me really, I've driven in Colorado snow so nothing the UK can possibly throw at me will even be noticed really - it's just the other idiots on the road who consider 1" of snow to be "treacherous!! " that are the danger. So long as I can keep away from the other numpties then I'm just fine.

Don't know if I would be in a RWD 200SX though, but that lives down south with Matt and I mostly drive it when we're on roadtrips in Holland and he's too drunk/hungover to drive (as I am in the signature picture, that's Ken's wife Deb in the passenger seat with a camera taking a photo of Matt & Ken in Ken's S14, while Matt took a photo of us.) Matt did have the same pic for a while but he's changed it now to show off his flares

Chains are fooking awesom in proper snow .... Drove around Northen California all winter a couple of years back, and that literally would not have been possible with out chains ... they work beautifully. However that is in deep proper snow.

In the UK, where you get 1 day max of decent snow, just on the backroads .... you would spend more time taking them on and off then driving with them.

I wouldnt bother in the UK.

For 300 ... get winter tyres. ..... or for £15 buy a couple of bags of sand and a spade from b&q and leave it in your boot ..... its amazing what weight over the rears and a spade to get you going can do

^^^ Wouldn't bother with chains in the uk unless winters start getting really bad. Even then I'd rather have a set of stock wheels with snow tyres fitted. I have chains but never needed to use them, even in the alps.

Wuss I went to work every day it snowed. Drove the 200 and had a lot of fun. Last year was a piss-poor dusting of the white stuff. Nothing like a decent amount

As long as you take it easy and remember the throttle is analogue not digital you'll be fine.

I had spare wheels with snow chains on the diesel 205 last winter, its absolutely astonishing where the car will go with them on!

As said above you only see an improvement when your driving on a depth of snow or slush and they are noisey and juddery on tarmac, work fine between 25 and 30mph where you hit a sweet spot.

    You know me,couldn't resist!

You only need two tools in life - wd-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the wd-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

And if you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem!

It was bloody freezing this morning in Dawlish, it took me half an hour to build up the courage to get out of bed! Then had to scrape all the ice from my windscreen which made my hands hurt

Really?! I wandered out in a short sleeve shirt, got the hose out and squirted the windscreen till the frost had gone, rolled it back up and trundled off to work

Would love to have a play on that in my 200 if it was lined with balloons for when i'd inevitably spin out.

    Git

How does the Monaro compare to an SX in the snow? More or less useless?
