    looking really nice,
i see you said that you have re laqured the wheel lips, how have you gone about this as i want to refurb my wheels as there a a hell of a lot of battle scars that need removing and the origional laqure has flaked and bubbled in places,
i know how to re work the ally and polish it but what sort of finish do i need to go for if its going to get a coat of laqure, only if its polished the paint will just flake off in the wind!!.
do you leave a slightly rough (im thinking scotch brite in one direction around the wheel) finish then the laqure brings out the shine or something else. never tried it before and i cant be arsed to have to keep polishing the wheels if i dont treat them with something.

keep up the good work by the way, cars looking mint

I did wonder about the lacquer coming off so I didn't go full mirror finish with the polishing, for strength I put five healthy coasts of lacquer on though and they are holding up fine so far.

Cheers for the comments mate. I'm in cash saving mode at the moment - It looks okay in photos but I'm aiming to refine the car, the paintwork needs attention, i've got a rear bumper to fit and a few bits to spray. Also undersealing and sound proofing are two things i've been putting off for at least a year now!

It's been far too long since I've done anything with this thread but I lived in Chamonix, France for a chunk of this time!

It’s had a decent service though, a forge recirc DV fitted & also some boost leak fixes, but that’s about it.

But its about time to drop the subframe and sort the underbody

started a couple of weeks back

diff and part of the prop as we couldn't undo the bolts

the subframe isn't looking too bad but it'll be blasted ready for paint and new bushes

this lot will need some work, will be upgrading the brakes changing the oem bushes

exhaust heatshield is rusty but still in one piece

    got some new tools

I started taking back the underseal on the drivers side turret and its not looking too bad just a bit of surface rust

cleaned up nicely with a wire wheel

    zinc primed

the sills are in good shape on both sides, just a bit of surface rust in places

arms about to take a deox c bath, thought cling film would keep the bushes dry Nope! since read deox c is ok with rubber etc anyways

and from today, one arm after a 24 hour soak vs one thats degreased ready to be soaked

Making a bit of progress, all the arms bar one are nice & clean. I'm going to dismantle them for zinc plating & powder coating next

driveshafts being treated with deox gel

After a couple of rounds they look like this

gave it a quick wire wheel & zinc primed it

Next thing to do is work out how to remove the lower control arms from the hubs as they are very corroded on & I can't get an impact driver into the space

    Driveshaft with deox gel

still not great on the right side, the left is looking pretty good though

    wire wheeled

I'm bored of the deox gel, I've followed the guidelines but I'm getting mixed results for some reason so the rightside is getting treated with Hydrate 80 instead of Elextrox

    goes completely black

the leftside came out better so I've used Electrox. It will be interesting to see which solution works best long term

there was no way I was using Deox Gel on the diff I didnt have the patience, so instead degreased & wire wheeled the hell out of it before a couple of coats of Hydrate 80 went on

All black Everything will be top coated with Epoxy Mastic

Last week I recieved a complete z32 rear brake setup, a bargain for £160 incl postage
cleaned up the calipers aren't looking too bad but they'll be rebuilt & painted soon enough

Picked up some parts from the platers this morning.

Mixed results, they are clean but some of the bits dont have total coverage Nothing seems to be missing with is a bonus though

    The exhaust heatshield looks pretty

Yesterday I tried to burn out subby bushes but it was taking ages even with a blow tourch, this morning it looked like this, charred but still very solid. I was suprised the bushes were is such good shape

I deceided to saw the metal insert tubes out, lubed up with a bit of wd40

with the tube out i cut a grove into the rubber until i hit metal and using a long screw driver levered the whole thing out. Would have taken hours to burn that!

the other two had a solid plastic washer that sat in the middle of the rubber bush, I had to burn them a bit and the forced them out with the long screw driver

all done, now I need to decide if I'm going to the diff bushes or not?

this week now that i've got some deox gel I went at her rear end
a couple of months back when i took the bumper bumper off it didnt look too bad at all, after throughly degreasing the area

no rust under the seam sealer

apple sauce aka deox gel on

    no more rust

back end all zinc primed. I'm going to topcoat with epoxy mastic

dismantled this lot too, will be adding the z32 rear brakes when its rebuilt

drivestafts are ready to be finished too

my hsd coilovers are seriously worse for wear & the dust boots are totally f**ked got to dismatel them for the springs & bottom mounts to be media blasted. I think im going to buy some coilover covers to protect them going forward

got a some new parts, Energy subframe, diff & steering rack bushes. Super Pro lower control arm bushes & Moog ball joints

more progress this afternoon, parts dont need to be gleaming for hydrate 80

2 coats later & they looked like this, epoxy mastic to follow. I've read some good things about both so hopefully this will last for a while!
