Project Stealth Machine a.k.a The Blackbird

Hey so I've had my s14a for a while now & I'm looking forward upgrading &
developing it more & more over time. What I'm aiming to have is a really refined
& composed car for road trips & long motorway journeys as well as having a powerful
car that can handle track work thrown in for good measure. I'm keeping this car
indefinitely so future proofing is going be an element & it's progression is going to
be an ongoing thing so I thought I'd start a thread

When I bought the car it had just over 48,000 miles on the clock & a Nissan service
history for the important service intervals. She was pretty much standard ,, the only
upgrades were an Apexi air filter , a bucket style catback exhaust , & a
    leaking wmic

This is what I've done so far-
    Apex FMIC
Full Apex Twin Exit exhaust system
    Simmons decat silencer
    H-Dev Stage 1a chip
Gizzmo boost controller MS-IBC set to .9 bar low boost & 1.19 high boost
    Blitz BLM boost gauge
    Walbro fuel pump
    NGK BCPR7EIX spark plugs
    Apex full alignment kit
    HSD Smoothie coilovers
Front & rear upper strut braces
K Sport 356mm front brakes with Ferodo DS2500 pads
    Upgraded rear pads
18x8 Kosei Sekena's et 35 - (wheels that came with my previous 14a)
    225 40 18 Goodyear F1 Asymmetrical tyres all round
    Apex 25mm rear spacers
    5mm front spacers
Rear Arches rolled by Phil @ Archenemy
Rockport front speakers & Rockport tweeters
    10" Polk Audio subwoofer
Pioneer MHT-8200BT head unit for the ipod
Sound proofed the rear quarters with loft insulation
    3 stage paint correction
    Zenki spats
    Clear front indicators
    Smoked side repeaters
    H-Dev 4300k HID kit
    Tinted rear indicators
    De-badged front and rear
De-bricked the front number plate and trimmed it down in size (my first upgrade)

I haven't taken many photos along the way but here's some of what I've taken so far....

Aero wing mirrors from the previous owner had to go

freshly tinted rear lights with one of the badges off

Here the HSD's have just been fitted - haven't got the ride height quite right yet

Looks real nice, but can't help but thinking it'd look a million times better on a nice set of Rota's instead.

Is the bonnet badge just stuck on??

thanks mate,, yeh the wheels are just a stop gap really,,
i'll be changing them at some point ....

yes the bonnet badge is stuck on but it is centred with 2 pins
that leave you with 2 holes in the bonnet to deal with or just ignore in my case

New additions just fitted. Pineapple rings & 15mm H&R front spacers

also ive been at WIM getting the
alignment checked & adjusted this week

Pineapple rings in situ... undersealing is on
the list of things to do

i have to mention how amazed i am by the pineapple rings,,
for something so simple they are very effective!
the car feels properly planted now,, this is the feel
i was expecting when the hsd's and alignment kit
were fitted. now the car is so stable,, the steering has
become sharper & more predictable,, turn in is a
dream,, before it was jittery, floaty and a bit
vague feeling... bring on the arb's

15mm H&R front spacers fitted to fill out the
arches a bit more,, the height has been played with too,,
its now a bit lower on the back and higher at the front.
new front ksport brakes & zenki spats also making their debut...

Great base. Think matte black ROTA-GTRD would look epic on this car man. Subscribed. Chrome dont get you home....Black will get you back!

    power run

I thought it would be good to get the car on the rollers now that it's is officially stage1a

No signs of det at all which is good. the gizzmo didn't hold its 1.19 bar of boost very well though so i got a modest 262bhp at the fly

Looking at your graph mate the car just makes 1.1 bar at its peak not 1.2

One thing you should note about Gizzmo's is it'll show peak boost if it holds it for 0.5 seconds but it doesn't mean its holding that boost. I'd start messing with your settings again. Bring a friend along and get them to watch the boost all the way up the rev range

BTW if it is a stock turbo, even Jez struggled to get it to hold 1.2 bar to the redline on that map:

    thanks mate.

im still new to the gizzmo and havent played with the gain settings,, i think asking a mate to keep an on the numbers is a good idea! i'll get it dyno'd again at some point soon to see how this affects things.

@ Bud yes i was thinking about black grids or gtr-d's not sure which yet... i really need to make some enquires about available offsets though. et12 or 15 is what id like, not sure if gtr-d or grids (18x9.5) come with this offset/colour...
Don't bother, as it is it looks great and different!

quick update - but no pictures im afraid, i fitted replacement
hubs to sort out a noisy wheel bearing, i couldn't face buying
new ones from Nissan so i opted for a set from a breaker, issue solved no more noise...

also seeing that winter is setting in i decided to get my antifreeze
checked. No worries its good for -36 c !

next on the list is to secure the sub in the boot properly
    - any ideas? was thinking of a bracket of some description
to screw it to the wooden spare wheel cover, i might think
about making a robust panel to fix the sub to, the one in there is really
flimsy. a new one might even help with a bit of sound proofing which
    would be an added bonus

    hit & run

I got an early christmas present from a fellow sainsburys shopper this week
they didn't even have the snow to blame for this one

I've been checking out the chips away website, they maybe cheaper than a body shop
but just as experienced with cosmetic repairs?

Is that down to the plastic? As it looks like it can be wetsanded and polished, hard to tell from the pics though.
