How do you connect the HTC Desire to the PC

Hi, I've tried to connect my Desire to the pc but it won't work! It won't bring up the option to change to "disk drive". I've got it set to automatically give me the option but it won't. Anyway, I manually went to settings and changed it to disk drive but it still won't pick it up on the pc as a drive! Has anyone else had this problem?

You don't need the software to pick it up as a disk drive . You only need the software for the Sync stuff

General - Plug the HTC in again. Click Start, right-click on My Computer (or Computer, if Vista or Win7) and then left-click on Manage. Click on Disk Management and see what drives show up in the main window. If it's not showing there, then ...

Click Start, right-click on My Computer and then left-click on Properties. Click on Device Manager and see if you have a device showing up as a conflict (will be a yellow circle with a black ! in it)

    My process is:

    Plug in Desire.

'Pull down' the Notifications bar on the Phone

Select "mount as disk drive" <-- or words to those effect

Open up my computer and click on the drive

I've managed to find it, under Device Manager > Disk drives it says "HTC Android phone USB device" but when I go in to My Computer/Computer it's not there

Does the phone start to charge when you plug it in?

Have you tried a different cable - I have a feeling that the one that comes with the charger is a charge only cable, not a 'full' USB cable

Go into the disk management snap in (control panels> admin tools> computer management > Disk manager) and see if its visible in there. It may need a different drive letter assigned.

To answer the second part, the cable that was supplied with mine works perfectly for all functions

The worrying part is that it doesn't prompt when connecting.

    Go to Settings
    Tap Connect to PC
Make sure 'Ask Me' is ticked
Check what the Default Connection Type is

Thinking about it, so does mine, as it's what I use to plug it into the mac at home

It's the one that comes with the HTC car charger that only seems to charge it

Done, comes with "disk 2" and underneath says "No Media"
I've clicked on it and gone to properies and update driver but it's already got the most up to date driver.

Already tried this as well, it's ticked but it doesn't promt me. It's currently ticked to charge only but even when I change it to "disk drive" it doesn't recognise it on the pc

You know what, mine has stopped asking aswell

EDIT : Aha, I've just switched it off and switched it on again and it's working properly once more . By 'it', I mean the phone.

I was just going to suggest a reboot as mine does freeze occasionally.
