    Well log story short,
friday i set off to the mot station and i got possibly half a mile away from my house,
gave it some boost in 2nd gear and didn't watch the boost gauge,
pulled up the a roundabout and cough cough cough yup running on 3 cylinders and smoking worse than ever with no power at all,
So drove it home at 40mph and a ozone killing cloud of smoke behind me.

compression, sparks and fuel all fine.....

So i blew the head gasket or a inlet gasket

Rather than mess about i stripped the engine down and this time going to build it properly rather than in 5 minutes

new turbo, piston rings, oil pump, liner seals, head gasket, head bolts, head skimmed and all the valves relapped in

the head has already had new guides by the looks of things and the valves look new too but it had a bend in the centre when checked with the straight edge so needed skimming

Got the head back from being skimmed today, and i've done the valve lapping

Spare cylinder head is screwed, det marks a plenty, corrosion pitting in the head and 3 or 4 valve seats beyond repair

few pics from the phone when stripping it down again

Bottom end is all done and the sump back on sealing over night

Gave the piston tops a quick going over with scotchbrite to bring them back up clean

    Old big ends

    Liners and pistons in

Decided to use my little daddy 3/8 torque wrench on the big end nuts

    Old piston ring massacre

You'll be glad to know he has recovered from his open heart surgery with flying colours :nodyes:

He did shock me through the new king lead while we primed the heart with fluids.... foook me, it made both my arms go up and outwards

Just had to adjust his pacemaker a little bit as it was running a bit fast and rich but now its at a nice healthy pace

I let him call his previous owner so they knew he had recovered

    bare in mind this video
was taken on the first start of a newly built engine the smoke is just oil/crap burning off.
the tappets are noisy as they are set at 0.20 on both sides will redo them after mot.
the turbo was noisy as the gasket was from a t28 bodged on temporary and was leaking a little - soon fixed with a little exhaust paste :nodyes:
and it was running the old setup the mixture screw was wound out at least 1-2 turns and idle dropped to a nice level

    So now were upto date

    Today he had his mot
Actaully got to my work so i beat my 1/2 mile record

    Passed his mot ok
    Only advisorys was
oil leak from sump (think the flywheel side half moon seal moved when the sump went up)
    Antiroll bar bushes cracking
Slight play in steering rack internals

Had to slow the idle speed down and the co was 2.10 not to bad considering it was set by ear

now to fix an overboost issue and oil leak then its respray time

Respray is in t-minus 2 weeks

Alot of prep work is still to be done on the body/doors,
The front bumper needs at least 2 full days on it to get it ready for paint

Think my brother and i have biten off more than we can chew with only 2 weeks to get it done

    Car masked up

The Bro in action painting the front bumper

think their too busy chasing corsas and saxos

well the car is pretty much fully prepped and whilst my bro was finishing off the passenger door shut....

    I started to play

No grill at the moment as my old one is beyond repair so a new one is coming when i can afford it

    Standard bonnet

Bad boy louvered bonnet unknown origin?

Come to the conclusion that it wont be used ever as,
    1. the bonnet needs that much repair work i have no energy left to do it
    2. it doesn't suit the car imo
    3. my brother hates it and thus wont paint it for me

    Looking really good this car.

In my opinion they are at their best when well kept and standard looking.

    Will look good painted
