Upgrade time! HTC Desire or Blackberry Bold 9700

I'm on Tmobile and plan to stick with them as I have the half price line rental (exc BB services and any additional boosters).

I can have the Desire with 1200 mins, unlimited txts (using my free booster) and unlimited internet for just £17.50 per month (using the discount) and that's on a 24 month contract.

I can have the Blackberry Bold 9700 in white with 1200 mins, unlimited txts (using my free booster) and £5 for my unlimited internet (using an additional booster) for £22.50 per month (using the discount) and that's on a 24 month contract.

At the moment I have a Nokia 8800 Arte which isn't touchscreen or qwerty so either one is going to be new for me. Alot of people I know have BB pin but then again I don't suppose it would matter as I get unlimited texts anyway.

Also, not 100% keen on the looks of the Desire, love the BB look in white!

I'm really spoilt for choice! Please help me make a decision!

Im to looking at a new smart phone and the only thing putting me off the Desire is the risk of spyware and virus's that are starting to appear.

Nothing, I was just using it as a example of a "well made" phone

Get a Blackberry then, there aren't any viruses prevalent on that platform

The risk of virus's on the Android platform is minimal and there is such a lot of crap floating around about this.
    Dont worry about it.

Was looking at the Galaxy S come upgrade time in Sept, but their UI isn't as slick as Sense IMO, plus there is not flash for the camera. Not a massive issue I know, but it seems odd given the specs of the phone.

With regards BB or Desire - the Desire takes it for me

    Jut

Sense is ok, but i use launcher pro now, its much quicker, but it doesnt have support for, the sense ui widgets.

Really? Based on what? There's no doubt the HTC is a beast in terms of specification, but it really depends what you need the phone for. In terms of email integration / messaging, combined with a physical keyboard nothing beats a (non-touchscreen) BlackBerry.

The 9700 is an awesome phone, but you just need to weight options/specs and see see what you need the phone for. I would say BBs are more functional than pretty. Definitely a device for the pro/business user.

Whatever you do, don't get an iPhone.

Why do you say that? I'd love to have an iphone but not prepared to pay £45 per month for the exact same contract when I can be paying £17.50 per month, works out £660 more over the 24 months!

Yup this is the bottom line, if you want really good integration with your office systems then the blackberry will be a bit better.
That said android 2.2 is going to bring improved connectivity to exchange systems (it ok at the moment with 2.1) so dont discount it yet.

Oh god don't tell me you read that article? In short, it's bollocks.

There is currently no spyware or viruses available for Android, and everything you install gives you a list of what it needs to access, don't like what you see? Don't install.
