HKS VS Poncams Vs BC stage 2

    Hi
Thinking of getting some cams, been recomended by my mapper to get 256s.
Been looking at HKS and Tomei Poncams but also been offered some BC stage 2s.
Can anybody shed and light on the differences? Which ones i should get?

    thanks

I'm not using Jez, been advised by Steve @ FC tuning. 264s will mean i have to change the valve spring and retainers which i cant afford. How much were the bc 264s with spring etc?

Bare in mind, you may well have to change your Valve springs and retainers anyway as the stock springs are either weakend with higher mileage or boarderline. But Steve would have already advised you of this

You really should anyway even if not going 264's as the stock springs are major shite.

Yeah i got the springs and retainers, its well worth it. I had a rocker arm failure last year and wanted to try and improve the situation a little along with a ras kit.

I cant remember the costs as it was last year i bought them, was quite reasonable though.
http://www.briancrower.com/makes/nissan/sr20det.shtml lists the bits with prices, should give your a rough idea as to costs (might need to add tax on when they arrive here but it wont be excessive)

You will likely want to buy new rockers too.

You should change the valve springs with any aftermarket cams, the standard ones are only good enough for standard cams. The standard retainers are fine.

You should also consider changing the rocker arms, especially if you've done high mileage.

This sounds like its getting expensive, to be honest i may just chuck some 256s in and see how it goes. Is the much difference between the brands, tomei ,hks,BC?

indeed martin. im sure boon the tune will do a fantastic job of melting the poor lads motor. ross86 has already paid the fc tuning price.

as for the 264's, they pretty much kick ass. a lilttle 'flat' low down, and i do mean low down. with a slightly compromised idle. but other than that they will pull real hard to like 7k

no idea wether my motor has valve springs though as i bought the engine with them already in, with no mention of uprated springs.

if you look on the hks website i think they recommend but is not compulsory for valve springs

    EDIT AFTER SPEAKING TO STEVE
it seems he had used the "base calc" feature in my map so when my friend opened the map it looked like was default, but was actually mapped fully.
