Again to update the OPs original great post with some details and tips that I have found when finishing replacing the bulbs in my heater unit last night.

    - Again as per the switch bulbs, use 12v LEDs which means that you don't have to worry about adding a resistor into the wiring loom.
    - Here is the polarity that you must install the LEDs with:

    - Before you try to pull the fan speed knob off, stick gaffer/ duck/ duct tape on it to protect it from damage. This also gives the pliers something to grip onto as the knob is pretty slippy on it's own.

    - I used white LEDs and bought two different types:

Clear and a yellowy solid plastic type:

    (12V T5 led Bulb COB W1.2W)

I find that the yellowy solid plastic type gives a better spread of light. Whereas the clear type gives a more forward focused light.
But you could sand the clear ones to “frost” them so they would diffuse the light like the solid yellowy ones do.

    - The factory fitted bulbs has 2x short mounts, and 1x long mounted bulb. The longer bulb is the one closest to the fan speed switch.

    - But fitting all short mounted LEDs works just as well.

    - LEDs fitted into the mounts:
