right had a nice productive weekend on the car. luckily mitch had nothing to do on his motor this weekend so was able to help me all weekend.
whilst i was sorting some of the interior out mitch decided to do a few bits for me in the bay. first job was fitting the rad hoses and fan cowling
pic for you suspect. no real issues with fitting it really, just a little trimming of the hose.
carbon fan cowling looks well in the bay i think
also got the splitfires fitted. just need to clean out the treads on the rocker before they can be screwed down properly.
got the power steering loom all pinned back. hoping it will be out of heats way but will be keeping an eye on it for sure.
next up i decided to mount up the intercooler. before i mounted it up i decided to ditch the bonnet catch.
because i had to cut a lot of the dash out to fit around the cage i had to cut the bracket which mounts the bonnet pull. so rather than try find somewhere else to mount it i decided to just ditch the whole lot and upgrade the bonnet pins to lockable aero catches. will update that when i get to it. once the catch was removed it allowed me to fit the fmic.
oh, and got the throttle cable fitted too
right moving onto the interior. before the cage went back in we decided to clean up and repaint the rear bench. mitch is a lot better than me at painting so i left him to it
should have really removed the sound deadening really as after its been painted its made the paint go a little yellow. not to fussed tbh as i'll be getting the inside painted properly in the future. its still a lot better than what it was like before so all good
next up i fitted the newly dyed roof lining and carpet.
still a fair bit of wiring to tidy up
next up was to refit the cage was never keen on the black so decided to get it repowdercaoted
was a bit of a pig to get in the car but we eventually got it all in. just need to get some longer bolts for all the feet as theyre not quite long enough.
such a lovely colour
got some other bits done but will update that tomorrow maybe.

ppppfffff...you gotta stop posting all of these awesome pictures!
carbon cowling = awesome
dyed roof liner = awesome
purple cage/rocker cover = awesome
the only thing I would of done differently, would of been to paint the "nissan" on the rocker cover white...
other than that...keep up the great work
thanks yanng
the plan was to do the letters in white but should have done it before my powdercoater applied the lacquer. might do it if the rocker cover has to come off again for any reason, or i'll do it when i get the engine rebuilt
Another thing you can do is file the powder coat off the letters to reveal the standard metal.

i also thought of this chris but was scared of once it was done the rest of the powder coat might flake. will leave it as is for now i think.
Get some more fire sleeve for the PAS loom, it really cooks down there.
Sorry if I missed it, but what did you dye the roof lining with? (And don't say 'dye' )
yeah i thought to myself when fitting it about this. will add it to the to do list

still got loads left too, much cheaper than buying the spray can types.
Awesome, thanks! gonna see if they do smaller bottles though, only want to dye the headlining haha!
Yeah pretty sure they do it in 1ltr bottles too mate
Just so impressive!!! :-)
1st class as always mate, i extended the loom for the pas and ran it through the passenger wheel arch as well as all the other wiring in the area, kept well away from the heat and tyres.
thanks mate
thanks dude. think i'll see how it copes within the bay first, will most likely try and heat wrap it like what ben said
thought id do a small update on the door cards I've been making over the last couple months. took a lot of time getting them right but I'm pleased with how they've come out. iv never liked the look of door cards chopped in half and due to the way the s14 dash flows into the door cards a simple flat alley door card would have looked a little odd imo. so came up with the idea to customise the standard door cars to fit around the cage.
first step was to cut the door card out where it was fouling on the cage. tried to cut out as least as possible. this gives you an idea of how much has to be cut out.
next up i bought a load of plastic piping and measured out sections and cut the tubes in half
was then just a case of trimming up all the sections so they sat nice and snug in the holes.
then just tacked the sections in place with the glue gun then tested it in the car to make sure it wasn't hitting the cage. once all was good i continued to add more glue then started to add fibreglass.
forget to get more pics of the other bits but you get the idea, once all the fibreglass was sanded down i was left with this
was nice that i could still keep the speakers too.
final stage was to get rid of any imperfections with the fibreglass by filling in any holes with filler, managed to get away with using not to much filler at all
last bit to do was to remove the suede part of the door card and sand back to a smooth finish.
the door cards are currently away getting flocked and will be getting them back on monday so fingers crossed they should look good once flocked. also had the dash done which i picked up the other night so plan is to start getting the interior back inn this weekend .
oh and also had a nice delivery from opies today.
not had a lot of time down on the car this weekend as been busy doing other stuff. plus I'm waiting on a couple bits for me to make more progress with the car.
one thing i did want to get done this weekend was to sort out the headlight loom. haven't been looking forward to doing this job as though it would be a bit of a nightmare. actually went really well, biggest challenge was getting a donor headlight loom. luckily managed to get one from lianjrhodes on here (cheers mate)
started with the indicators chopped of the plug from the donor loom (on the right) and simply cut the indicator plug of from the loom on the car and swapped it the s14a plug. seeing as i had a load of braided sleeving from doing the engine loom i thought i may swell give this the same treatment(didn't get any pics of this sadly, will get some next time I'm down the car)
the sidelight plugs are the same for 14 and 14a so nothing had to be changed there. however the headlight plugs are different so they had to be done. the s14 headlights use two plugs, one for main beam and one for high beam. however an s14a uses one plug(plug on the top) for both so had to simply connect the both sets of wires into the one plug.
hooked all the lights up to test and plugged in the hid's
moment of truth
needs a little more fiddling about i think though as I'm loosing the main lights when i flick to high beam
bit of poor update sorry lol
Thats due to how you've wired the hids. You either need an extra bit of loom with a relay of sorts (search for cookie relay) or wire the hids up so they ignite with the sidelights

great work, car is looking the part
what a difference it makes using AN pipes eh? ive went a bit daft with them now
Like what you're doing with the door cards, should look very good when finished.
On a different note... is that a Mk2 Escort I see in the unit? I do believe I saw the very same one heading south on the Caterham Bypass on Sunday, looked smart.
Awesome job on the door cards!! Looking forward to seeing the final result once flocked
Also, I see you have an st8100. This means you've officially made your way on to my enemies list.
