    Flat tyre not inflating

I Was driving into work this morning and noticed a sudden pull to the right, put the window down and yes it was a flat tyre.......thought i would pull over and put some air in but the valve not allowing to inflate, checked to see if it would inflate other tyre which was ok.......any ideas on what could be wrong with the flat?

I would have thought that this was the obvious answer.

the word sudden is the clue here.

Punctures work by letting air out of a tyre over a period of time. If you have a slow puncture that deflates the tyre every week, then unless your tyre pump takes a week to inflate a tyre, then you will be able to inflate the tyre. However a week later the tyre would be flat

    Air in > air out

however in this case the tyre deflated suddenly ... in possibly < 1 second

in this case to inflate the tyre you need the equation :- air in > air out. So you would need a pump capable of inflating the tyre in under a second ...... the problem being as soon as you stop inflating the tyre would go down again in under a second.

So in answer to your question there is nothing wrong with your flat, it is working exactly the way a flat should work, by letting the air out over a period of time. ..... Its just the period of time is very short ..... to short for you to even inflate the tyre

Some of the digi pumps at petrol stations wont pump air into a flat tyre unless you push a wee button on the pump to tell the machine its a flat tyre

it took 5 min of head scratching for me to suss it out! I think it was bp

or eh yeah you have a big fook off hole in your tyre

If the valve wasn't letting air in then you'd see the pressure gauge climb really high in an instant. Is that what it's doing?

Just take it to a tyre centre, they'll tell you straight away!

You only need two tools in life - wd-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the wd-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

And if you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem!

hole so big it will be letting the air out quicker than its going in, tyre is leaking on the beads or its come off the rim, back beed might off but the front is on,

If the air in the tyre is coming out so quickly, is it possible that there will be a vacuum in there? Just trying to establish the risk of getting sucked in to the tyre.... I suppose if you were sucked in, you'd be in the best place to find out where it's leaking from.

Chuck water over the tyre, try to pump it up and look for bubbles
    Feel for air escaping
Valve might be blocked/ stuck, tyre place will have a wee tool to undue it and replace the inside of the valve, then use the dust caps!

When you suss it out Make sure you tell us why you had so much trouble putting air in a tyre
