    2011 Focus

    Ok time for a

    This Is the next Focus

Its definatly keeping in line with the Fiesta/Mondeo styling

And its biggest rival (well in the UK anyway) is the new Astra

So if you was getting a new daily driver and only had these to choose from, what would it be

Having driven an Astra, I'd prefer to slither, naked, across broken glass than spend my hard earned on one, specially a new one - I don't know how they got the shitty things out of the showrooms tbh. Focus on the other hand (the older ones at least) were pretty good Plus it has a heated screen

From a looks point of view the Astra. The Focus looks like its been designed by Chris Bangle's American cousin.

Hate to say it, but I prefer the look of the new Astra as the Focus looks a little too fussy. The Focus isn't a bad looking car but the Astra has a better stance IMO and looks simple, clean, well proportioned and really rather good.

what are the dimensionss of the focus? in comparison to the Mk2?

im not too aure on the styling of the 2 focus's will have to see them in the metal to make an informed decission, not overly keen on the dash either. Personally i think the Mk2 ST is perfect for looks and comfort but with 5 seats and the standard size boot, with the TDCi 2.0L engine ant 6 speed box

Not keen on either really, might take a while for me to like the focus.

    I hate Astra's with a passion.

I am not a fan of the early Mk2, the facelift was a much better looking car

I imagine this will be slightly bigger than the previous model as thats the trend these days

Wow, so Far Eastern cars are looking more and more like classy european cars, and Fords are looking more and more like Far Eastern cars? Nicely generic and non challengine. That front end is properly beaten with the ugly stick.

tbh if you are choosing car like this, you don't really choose it on looks, do you? Otherwise you probably wouldn't be looking at a focus or an Astra. You'd choose it on what does stuff that you want a bland middle of the road hatch to do, and as far as that is concerned, the Focus historically is always one step ahead of the Astra.

What is it with these stupidly over-designed dashboards in modern cars. Whatever happened to simple, clean, easily readable information?

Apart from that, I like the looks of the hatch - but the saloon in the first pics looks very weird. It has the back end of a baboon with a prolapse.

Having said all that, focus > astra all day long.

Think i would pick the astra purely on looks, but having owned a 2003 vectra would probably have to take the ford even though it looks like a squashed mondeo or a stretched out fiesta

Looks like a current mondeo, but squished a bit to be shorter.

Bit fussy looking inside, like it's trying hard to be as mad as the current astra, that looks like it's been decided against by Vauxhall...

Cant say either tempt me Lease-hire prices I can see being comparable with a rwd 1-series, and if I want an ugly hatch, that's where I'd go I think, despite the fact on paper it's probably not better in any way, possibly worst. I am ashamed to say the 1 series coupe I found pretty decent to look at

I have driven the new Astra at the pre launch event they held at Millbrook and I got to drive various different models including the standard one, 2.0 turbo diesel SRI and the petrol Turbo and I have to say that its a really great car. The handling was fantastic on the 2.0 TD and the Turbo and the interior was really well put together and comfortable. Couldn’t afford a brand spanker but it’s a nice car. Don’t really like fords and having not driven this new one I wouldn’t like to comment but looks a bit better than the current model I guess..

A compromise was met - I bought her a cheaper, uglier focus.

I don't like the new saloon one either. Looks like a disabled Mondeo.

I bet it'll be a good 'sensible' car though
