I think water cooled wastegates are more a marketing ploy. Only time I can see one being anyuse is during something like an endurance race but even race cars don't run them I don't think.

Turbo is all back on. Doing a fresh oil change tonight before I start the car up. Then it's for steve to weld on the V-band flange onto the wastegate pipe and we are all good. I'm itching to drive her again now .

She's back up and running and will be getting the new wastegate fitted tonight. Then a nice clean and polish tomorrow before heading into London .

    Thanks buddy .

Bought a new fixed bucket seat of Madda (good to meet you and the boss again).

When I got it home I realised I didn't actually fit in it lol, so sold it onto one of my old uni mates as he's a lot smaller than me.

Then needed to get a flange made up. Big thanks to P.Nicholas for sorting this for me.

    New flange

New tial wastegate ready to go on.

Got bored so took my old on apart. Mainly made of rust and a seal with holes in it lol.

Car looks awesome Daz, well balanced turbo.
We have more of an imbalance on an aircraft engine when we change out some of the blades which is well, a hell of a lot bigger!
Who did you get to refurb your tubby?
Im looking at getting a TD06 at the moment. Just wish the rest of my car was a tidy as yours!

I had no idea what that printout meant to be honest. Good to hear it's nicely done.

The turbo was rebuilt by Bernie's Blowers. He's on facebook. He did tell me he has a custom TD06 turbo he wants someone to test out lol.

    Mine isn't that tidy really.

Next up is to decide what to do with the manifold as it's still got a crack in it somewhere.

Well turns out the manifold didn't have a crack in it. Looks like the flange might have been too distorted so got it machine nice and flat. Must say this is most likely be the last attempt with this manifold to get things working again. Might be heading for the bin and then to have a new one made.

Refitted the manifold last night and will be fitting the turbo and wastegate tonight so fingers crossed that will sort it all now.

I've had to water cool mine as long track sessions caused the wastegate diaphragm to melt, only downside being that water temps have risen slightly (twin tial mvs, full-race manifold, gtx3071, 1.6bar) might be something to consider daz if you intend on doing track days?

Thanks for that. How long are you on track for before you've been having issues?

They went the first time at spa-francorchamp after 4 laps then I replaced the diaphragms and they went again after 4 sessions of 4 laps at Bedford gt circuit. I spoke to tial in the USA and they said "unless the wast gates are in direct airflow always water cool to be on the safe side" the black anodising on my mvs gates has now gone gold

They both sit under the downpipe which loops down from cam cover height to the bulkhead then down, the downpipe is heat wrapped which helps a little I guess !
I'll dig out a picture in a sec
