    HID install

    Just a few quickies.

Do you have to take the headlight unit out to install the HID bulb?

Which one to you replace as I see 2 sockets for the bulbs?

Also, when soldering the relay to the sidelights do you just basically cut out the rubber bit and solder the pins onto the wires?

    Thanks in advance

You can take the headlight out, makes it a wee bit easier but you dont need to.

You replace the dipped beam bulb.

You can just splice the wires into the sidelight feeds, solder is a neater job with heat shrink.

Its not a hard job to be honest.

    I dont have HID's but

    1. Even changing a normal bulb its 100 times easier removing headlight
    2. The projector (near the sidelight) is the dipped beam and the one you want to replace if you only have 1 HID kit, the other one is full beam
    3. I believe the trigger to turn the lights on is soldered or securly connected to the sidelight but double check with someone whos actually done it

What kit did you go for? How much? And let us know what you think of it once fitted

Edit: I type to slow lol

    Cheers sideways and immy.

i read about taking the headlights off and basically gathered that you need to take the grill and sidelight off and undo the bolts. But the only bolts I could find were the ones next to the sidelights?
Couldnt find the 'plastic' screws on the grill?
Maybe its different with a bodykit?

Also, do you just yank the stuff out after youve taken out the cap thingy covering the bulb?

Heard that the plastic somehow needs to be cut and enlarged to fit the HID bulb?

I did mine about three weeks ago. To take the headlight out (assuming your running oem - standard bodykit) get down to the same level as the grill. There are two little square cutouts on each side with a square headed screw in. They only turn quarter of a turn. This allows you to pop the grill out. Behind this there are two Bolts holding the inside of the headlight in. There are two nuts bhind the side light which i gather you've found. The headlight will come free then. Obviously unplug the plugs, mine were a bit awkward.

Once the light is out. Remove the cap covering the bulb nearest the wing of the car.. Remove the bulb, being careful not to damage the metal clip that holds it in. This is re-used. Snip the wire on the bulb and discard. Also unplug the ground from the unit. These two wires pass through a rubber gromet in the cap. Push this gromet out. You then need to measure the gromet size that was supplied with your kit. Measure the smallest diameter so that it squeezes through and fits snugg. Think mine was 25mm. Now enlarge the hole on the back of the cap to this size. Fit the bulb to the lamp, feed the bulb wires through the hole, secure the gromet in the hole and refit headlights.

As for the relay im sorry i cant help, i wired mine into the fogs as im ditching them in favour of a giant fmic.

Oh and to refit the grill you'll probably have to remove the clips from the car. Just squeeze them and pull out. Then you have to twist them back into the correct hole on the grill. It will just click back in to place then.

Hope this makes sense. Apologies if not. Its getting late.

basically everything went well until the golden screws holding in the metal clip in place.
What is a bloke supposed to do when the crosshead of a screw is proper fcuked and turns into a circle?

No mate. it should be just a metal clip holding it in place! You just unhook it and the metal clip lifts up and you should just pull the bulb out

Aideo, what did you use to enlarge the hole on the back of the cap?
That black rubber is not exactly butter like.

Use either of these, I'll leave it to you to decide which is best...
