No idea on your question but looks like a cool build. Have a word with Colwell about your aero as he added diffusers like that to his front bumper having spoken nicely to his colleagues at an F1 team....

Right then, time for a bit of a rant which will explain the total lack of anything happening with this car...

Back in July we took the car to a local paint shop where I was working this time last year after losing my job for my old boss to fix some rust in the arches, ensure a patch that was put onto the underside of the strut tower during cage building didn't get any more rusty and cause problems, and flare the the arches a bit so we can fit wider rubber on there- he seemed really confident of his plan to chop the arch off about an inch above the edge, then flare and add a newly profiled lip, kinda like an E46 M3 has.

I took 3 days off work to go and do the bitch work for him, but it just didn't make the progress he was expecting and it ended up we got to the end of the 3 days with one side with half done new metalwork, no filler, no paint in sight on the car. he said it'd take him a few days more and leave it with him to get finished, all will be ok. Weeks later the metalwork on one side was done and a layer of filler was on it, but the other untouched, and he got really busy so shunted our "mates rate" job into the next unit along whilst he cleared the decks where it has remained until now.

After repeatedly being told it would get done next week (always next week!!!!) it finally moved back into the workshop, so as arranged Tom went round to have a look at the progress today with a mate to do any moving around of stuff as he's got a ruined back and been off work all week... seems all the progress is that it has been driven round, and even that hasn't been done correctly as the brand new, never driven on offside rear tyre has been cut by the exposed rusty edge and cut a gouge through it. To compound it Tom saw the newly fabbed inner arch doesn't let the tyre move through its stroke, so basically the only work that has been done is wasted effort.

Anyway, the long and short of it is I've said to the guy we're getting it moved to another workshop where a chap can do the metal work, fix the strut tower patch and then we can send it back for the paint getting done since that is what this guy really specialises in.

We're both totally fed up with the waiting, we've missed the entire summer trackday season, Tom can't work on it cos of his back and I now live in Cambridge so have a 3-5hr drive back to do anything and to cap it all I've been getting grief off the missus cos me having to sort stuff would ruin the weekend plans.... Just trying to keep my cool....

Trying to put a bit of a positive spin on things at the moment:

A couple of things were trying to sort out
1- oil cooler system, currently we have a functional but slightly untidy set up using a mocal thermostat, remote filter housing and Setrab cooler.

Trying to neaten everything up and simplify the engine bay:

    Greddy thermostat/oil flter housing.

    Tomei oil block

2- We are sorting out a thermocouple recording system so we can monitor different engine or engine bay temps- can record 12 channels at once- this will be pretty damn useful. Linked up to a laptop it should be a help with developing the cooling side of things...

Still need to put an on off switch and hardwire the box into the ignition for a live.

Our car has now been at the body shop for 6 months straight and because we are apparently getting a mates rate job keep on getting punted to the back of the queue- Finally we got a finish date that would definitely get stuck to after the numerous delays....

    ....and so....

    ......after 6 months wait.....

    ....I proudly present to you......

someone elses car, as it's still not fucking done:

...we are both unbelievably bored of waiting, and don't know what the hell we can do. We chase, we give him room, we ask, we tell, and still nowt happens

    Next week apparently...

loving the dedication of the build! sad to see you being fecked around though

You only need two tools in life - wd-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the wd-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

And if you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem!

cheers for the support chaps, we're really fed up but there's nothing we can do- Cillian the problem is it's with a guy I worked for previously, so he's meant to be doing it at a good rate for us, but tbh I'd prefer by a mile that he got it done at normal rates and we got the damn thing back!!

It's been ready for paint for about 3 weeks now, I just can't understand why he doesn't get it in the booth and stop me from hassling him... my problem is I'm 160miles away from home, so can't go and give him more grief, which I think is the only option available anymore!

well it's finally back home, after yet more delays. As you can see from the pissed off tone of the posts above from me I'm really fed up with how long it's taken and how we've not been a priority at all for the paint shop, even though I used to work there (just as a pair of hands rather than a skilled employee) and us trying every tactic to get things moving along, getting on his case regularly, leaving him more breathing space, whatever we tried it just didn't make any effect. The car has been at the shop since late July last year, so we can't wait to get back on track after so much time missed for really no good reason, and we're also looking forward to being able to get on with some of our planned changes which have been on hold for 7 months as well... I'm so pissed at the wait that it's not actually exciting to get it home (especially since I'm not there, despite taking 6 days hol at various times when we thought it would be!) so we'll have to wait until we can do a bit of tinkering next weekend to start getting the enjoyment back.

Anyway, here are a few pics, taken on Tom's old digital point and click so don't really make the shape of the car look stunning, but you can see the paint is lovely, as you'd hope after so much fecking time!!

the last is my favourite as for some reason the other photos make the offset look a bit weaker than they are -although it's not a hella flush gansta ride... it's a track car with suspension travel- in the metal it looks good, basically like a showroom spec M3 or something and as if it could have rolled off the production line like it. Colour is a peugeot tone by the way, Erythree red if anyone is interested... looks a bit more fiery under sunlight instead of the overcast conditions we've had this weekend, and I'm sure we'll have more pics soon to show it looking a bit nicer and with the same 255 khumo tyres on the front as rear and ride height adjusted for looks as well.

cheers mate, we'll try and make a bit faster progress from now and also get some better pics that represent the colour more realistically as they are over exposed a fair bit and make the paint look lighter than it is- it's actually quite like the factory colour, but with the the brown tone taken out which I think looks really good.

yeah the arches are nice, cheers chaps.

We'll probably take some pics at the weekend when I'm home, but Tom won't be able to do any in the week as it'll be dark by the time he gets over to the garage/free dinner/mum and dad's most nights

...I'll maybe borrow mum's camera as it's a bit more adjustable, so we'll see if we can get some more inspiring pics instead of the snaps we've got so far- the point n click doesn't do the big overhangs on the S14 any favours. We'll also put it on the tarmac rather than the front garden! The parents had asked if we could clear the garage so they could put their cars away which we did, then Tom got the S14 back from the paint shop and they were asking why he'd stuck it on the grass by the side of the house instead of in the garage ...oportunity not to be missed, it'll be living back in there asap!

Tom's done a few of the things on the MOT list, so hopefully just putting the cat back in tonight and then it'll get tested on friday. If it passes I'll put tax on it Fri night and we can go for a spin for the first time since early July last year... looking forward to it!
