    Strange rattle about 2000rpm

Have developed a strange rattle when coming off the power at about 2000rpm. The only way to describe it is a tinny sound like a head shield vibrating. It is louder from underneath and appears to be from round the front pipe/de-cat.

    Any ideas?????????

A tale tale sign of damaged piston rings from intake valve failure due to a failing turbo bearing.

Generally causes bottom end shell premature failure as well.

Fairly recent t28 install no play on the shaft. Still boosting to 15psi no problems.

Have you actually got any heat shields still fitted?

Probably all of them arry just taken the sod off the manifold no others. Please tell me you think it could be sething easy like that LOL. I thougt it could be the baffles in the de-cat that may have come detached. How many heat shields are there round the exhaust?

The main heatshields are around the downpipe but it seems you've changed that section - there's one on top of mani and a couple round the turbo. See if you can bend them slightly by hand and see if the noise changes.

2k rpm is a little low to be anything bottom endy, and if it were it'd be heavier than the sound of a heatshield - so I'd say you're likely ok for now.

If you can recreate the sound on idle by revving the car, then try sticking a screwdriver onto the shields to see if the noise originates from there or changes with pressure applied.

Except that when my first one did it I thought it was a heatshield

If it only does it on the way down the revs then Id imagine/hope its just a vibration. If it does it going back up the revs then its a bit more "involved", shall we say
