My S14 Reshell/rufurb/rebuild. Major project so will take a long time.

Hi. I currently have a S14 but today I picked up a S14a shell to reshell my S14.

    My current road worthy car....

Im reshelling because I found some bad rust due to a crap repair on some accident damage before I brought it....

I cut as much rust out as I could and then decided to reshell so I bodged it up to keep me going until the tax runs out.

    The new shell....

....Im going to be keeping the S14 front end off my current car and have a few Ideas for it, including:- It will be totally derusted(no matter how long it takes and even if it all needs to go back to bare metal), It will be properly undersealed, have a full cage fitted and I will be giving it a full respray.

My S14 will be then stripped and everything cleaned up, derusted and painted accordingly.

Its going to take along time to do due to time constraints and funds but Im in it for the long haul. Ill be updating this thread as often as pos.

    Cheers.

    Rich.

Im half way through making one at work. Ive just been waiting to get my shell so I can measure the distance between the chassis rails.

Once its on the spit Im going to remove as much as pos(I want it to be a totally bare shell like yours in your rebuild thread ex-tr) before the derusting and fabrication work begins.

Nice. Good luck mate. If you are going to take it bacjk to bare metal and derust, may I suggest http://www.surfaceprocessing.co.uk/.

£750 for the alkaline->hydrocarbon->hydrochloric acid dip and then
£750 for the The Electrophoretic Coating.

This is what I'm going to do to my S15. This will save tonnes of time and also does not work out bad price wise as you save on not havin to buy expensive stuff like deox-c, sandpaper, shotblaster etc etc etc.

Anyway, good luck. I'll be following this with interest.

theres only one bad part on it and that seems just a little red, nothing a good wire brush andsome anti-corrosive paint would'nt sort.

no accident repairs on that one its 100% stright.

Got the shell on a spinny jig and started to strip it down.

So far managed to get the front wings off, boot lid off and the fuel tank off.

Having a look underneath there is plenty of rust that needs cleaning up but it looks like only surface so far.

Tomorrow the doors are coming off then Ill be attacking the carpet thats left and making a start on the removing whats left of the dash and the wiring.
