    N-reg vectra m.o.t emmision problems

sent the old vectra for an mot yesterday and it failed on emmisions at idle they are fine but at raised idle the co2 and lamda are out i've gave it a full service and some wynes exhaust control fuel additive did about 6miles and took it back no change do i need to put more miles of abuse under it's belt to give it a chance to clear through the system?

Check the EGR valve isnt shot. Your best bet is to wander over to vvoc.com and have a look at some of their guides. You can blank the egr.
You might have an air leak, the breathers block up, etc,etc....was it a HARD 6 miles?

    results at idle are
    CO 0.50% pass
    raised idle
CO 0.70% fail max limit 0.3
HC 152 PPM pass max limit 200
Lambda 1.04 fail max limit 1.03

2nd fast idle test hc went up to 170 ppm abd co went down to 0.61 and the lanbda stayed the same

They're pretty cheap from motor factors these days, give Euro Car Parts a try

Did you fit an Oxygen sensor as well?

By the sounds of it you need a O2 sensor!

Yep, a new O2 sensor is generally a wise move when replacing the cat

I had a lot of emission trouble with my N-reg 1.8 Vectra LSi a few years back - got a fail at one garage but took it elsewhere and it passed. Check when their calibration tests were last done (legally should be in the last 12 months at some point).

it's a 1.8 ecotek i gave it a good sevice and a 60mile clear out and took it back for check and it past lambda and co2 on idle then it past lambda on raised idle but still faild on the co2 but it went from 0.61 down to 0.51 then fitted the cat cleaned the o2 sensor went back still no good
i,ve stripped and cleaned the injection system cleaned out all breathers put fuel additive and super unleaded in but still no good
it's done high mileage but it doesn't use a drop of oil at all

Similar problem different car, changing the O2 sensor, does a normalish car just instatnly improve the emission values or does it need a bit of run in.

    Should be instant.

My S14a failed emissions with a faulty lambda, I replaced it and drove it less than a mile to the MOT station where it instantly passed.
