    Is it worth importing?

    Hi guys,
Long time since my last post - been in Japan for two years and sold my S14 before I came out here.
Possibly coming back to the UK in the next 6 months and wondering if it worth me importing an S15 or even an R32/33 for that matter.. Given the current financial climate haven't the prices of these cars dropped really low? I read somewhere the importing palava might be changing and it could make it very difficult / impossible anyway..
Would something newer like a Legacy B4 be worth importing?
Any advice boys and girls - any cars worth bringing back as an investment under £10k.
    Cheers,
    Ian

If your in Japan and your in the situation where you can look before you buy then it may be worth buying a 1999 nicely modified S15. By the time it gets here it will be 10 years old so it will be simple to register in the country.

I wouldn't bother with anything newer due to the new IVA as opposed to SVA.

I believe that if you own a car in Japan for 6 months and then bring it home with you, you may be able to avoid paying import tax & VAT (nearly 30% of the car's shipped value). However you wouldn't be able to sell it to anyone else without subsequently paying the tax, I think.

Even so, the tax would have to relate to the actual resale value of the car so essentially it'll provide tax free depreciation right? So run it for a bit first
