Nevilles 'What is this and how much does it weigh' thread

Well due to the sad demise of Neville i have been slowly stripping him down for parts and, having not owned an S14 before, i am a little unsure of what some of the electronic boxes are and what some of the other bits do. I'll post a pic or two up of the bits in need identifying and you lot can chime in with the answers

Also the number of times i've seen people asking how much something weighs and if it's worth removing to improve the power/weight ratio is silly so , me being me, decided to weigh everything as i remove them and record the weights for posterity. The list is ongoing as bits come off so will be updated regularly.

    Interior

    Dashboard --------------- 9.5kg
Steering wheel inc airbag - 4.5kg
    P/s Airbag unit ----------- 4.5kg
    Airbag loom -------------- 0.5kg
Fr door panels ----------- 3.5kg ea
Passenger seat inc frame - 16.8kg
    Rr seat base ------------- 3.5kg
    Rr seat back ------------- 6kg
Rr side panels ------------ 1kg ea
    All window surrounds ----- 1kg
    Parcel shelf -------------- 0.75kg
    Headling and furniture ---- 2kg
Fr speakers and frame ---- 0.75kg ea
    Fr seatbelts -------------- 2kg ea
    Rr seatbelts -------------- 0.5kg ea
    Carpet -------------------- 6.5kg
    Bulkhead sound deadening - 4kg
    Air diverter box ----------- 4kg
    Aircon box ---------------- 2.5kg
    blower unit --------------- 2.5kg
    Complete car loom -------- 24kg

    Exterior

    Fr bumper cover ---------------- 5.5kg
Fr bumper support bar ---------- 3kg
    Fr wings ----------------------- 3kg ea
    Rr bumper cover --------------- 4.5kg
Standard S14 wheels and tyres - 17.5kg ea
    Rear window ------------------- 8kg

    Engine Bay

Airbox inc Cold air feed ----- 2kg
WMIC inc cast pipes ------- 4kg
    Radiator ------------------- 4kg
Fan cowling inc second fan - 2.5kg
    Aircon pump --------------- 7.5kg
    Aircon pump Bracket ------- 4.5kg
    Aircon radiator (condenser) - 2.5kg
    ABS pump ------------------ 4kg
    ABS pump bracket --------- 1kg

Random stuff cause i like to weigh things

    Continental sportcontact 2 225/45x17 - 9.3kg ea

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How do you disable and remove the airbags without personal injury? I need the dash complete for my project and i need my limbs intact for future use also.

I seem to have a vague memory about reading that the airbag control unit is under the rear seat, am i right? is this it?

Finally (for now), what is this wire for? It's located on the interior fuse box trim panel but doesn't seem to do anything, it's not a button or a switch by the looks of it. If it's something to do witht the security then PM me the answer and i'll remove the pics etc.

If you disconnect the airbag in the steering wheel (in the flap at the bottom of the wheel ) the one in the dash is disabled also i beleive. Id also disconnect the battery and leave the car to fully discharge before starting work aswell

The switch (with the missing button) in the fuse box trim is for turning off the ultrasonics on the NATS so you can leave children and animals in the car on a hot day without them setting off the alarm.
