who knows about vw need help

ive got a vw passat and its recently started acting up.

its a 1996 2ltr petrol if that helps

anyway every now and then theres a strong smell off fuel in the cab and when sitting at junctions on idle the revs bounce up and down and then catches this only does this every now and then but its getting annoying.

so any dub fans here who can help fix this .

    cheers

My friends one had issues with corrosion under the coilpack, just had to unbolt it and clean up with sandpaper.

    You're is a B5 model right?

The best thing you can do with a vw is drain the fuel out the tank tipmit inside and over the body work and throw a match at it,

Should be a barcode sticker on the upper cambelt cover. 3 letters.

Air leak, idle control valve and coils are a big weak point

One of my workmates had a mk4 golf with similar idle issues. Turned out to be a dirty throttle body. Gave it a quick clean and it ran perfect again. Worth a try as it takes about 15 mins to clean it.

AGG. Piece of shit... Idle control valve and air leak most likely.

Look under the boot carpet, might be a sticker there.

In fairness they're not a bad motor... I've had a few in golf gti's that weren't a problem but I know others that have had nothing but problems.

Bad for doing hall senders in the dizzy. If you ever get a 5k rev limit that's the issue.
