    Sr20vvl

    Following on from the "Inspirational pictures" thread, what's the score with these engines?

    Anyone ever fitted/tuned them to 200sx's?
    I take it that drag car has one, but anyone else?

    Are they only compatible from the X-trail GT or can you fit the other heads?

    I've heard briefly about them but never looked into it....

    Taken from Wikipedia...
    SR20VE

    The 2.0 L SR20VE has Nissan's Neo VVL variable valve timing with lift control. It produces 190 PS (139 kW) @7000 rpm and 144 ft·lbf (196 Nm) @6000 rpm and later (2001-2003) 205 PS (150 kW) @7200 rpm and 206 nm @5200 rpm. It does not have 20 valves as is sometimes stated. Used in:

    * 1998 P11 Nissan Primera 2.0G-V, 190 PS (139 kW)
    * 2001-2003 P12 Nissan Primera, 205 PS (150 kW) 20V
    * U14 Nissan Bluebird SSS-Z, 190 PS (139 kW)
    * Y11 JDM Nissan Wingroad ZV-S, 190 PS (139 kW)

    [edit] SR20VET

    The 2.0 L (1998 cc) SR20VET was the first turbocharged engine from Nissan with variable timing and lift control. It produces 280 PS (206 kW) @ 6400 rpm and 309 nm @ 3200 rpm.

    It is used in the following vehicles:

    * Nissan X-Trail GT

    Fwd only, require a LOT of work to convert to RWD fitment.

    the x-trials have a habbit if the timing chain tensioners breaking up and between a certain dates had a manufacturing problem in which the engine was throwing rods thought the block, were done 3 in the past year all with similar problems, i know it was looked into but nissan never agreed there was anything wrong

    I doubt they're the X-Trail GT that uses the SR20VET though. I doubt there are many outside of Japan.

    As said they're fwd only. Basically the block is pretty useless when it comes to fitting however the head can be made fit and its the head thats the better part. Namely they don't use the regular SR20 rocker setup. The use a shaft with the rockers attached to it.

    Here is a pic of a VE rocker, not the hole in it....

    Here is a pic of it on the shaft with cam and spring in location.

    Thats really the only advantage with it but anyone thats hard on a SR will know its the most annoying part. You can imagine the stresses a drag car goes under so they less stupid little parts you've to deal with the better.

    im building one at the moment

    been abit slack lately because im in europe traveling (i live in australia) only join this forum while ive been traveling europe and met some people who told me about this forum

    but yeah about my sr20vet
    bought a half cut from a GT X Trail
    basically ripped of the cylinder head and the oil pump and the rest of the engine is just sitting there wasting space

    the reason why i kept the sr20vet oil pump is because they are stronger
    the GT X trail has a crappy cam shaft because its made to suit a turbo engine the lift and duration which comes standard is a piece of crap the SR20vet also doesnt have a VVL exhaust cam
    so wat ive done with mine was put P12 SR20V (later model) cam shaft for both the intake and exhaust cam
    but because the exhaust cam doesnt have VVL the rocker arms are different so u will need to change the exhaust rocker arms to the VVL items
    once u have done this u have urself a late model P12 SR20V cylinder head

    keep in mind these cylinder heads arnt all the same

    P11 SR20VE, SR16VE are different compared to the later model P12 SR20V and SR20VET

    the most easiest way to tell the difference between the both is
    P11 has neo VVL on the rocker cover
    P12 has the neo VVL on the coil pack cover

    anyways here are some photos of mine when i 1st got it as a half cut

    i dunno how inspirational these are because its still being put together

    SR20V cylinder head bolted onto a SR20DET Block

    heres a photo of the exhaust manifold
    the manifold is made some steam pipe (i dont like using stainless for exhaust manifolds)

    and here is a photo of the engine while it was being put together

    and check out the size of the ports!
