I recently dropped the back sub frame off mine and was also pleased to find how corrosion free it was, I am also planning to seam weld up around the suspension mounting points struts ect, dose any one know how far its worth gong with this?

If you have the time ( and can weld upside down OK ) its worth stitch welding all the seams, chassis rails etc. I am going to do this and weld a full cage in . Should make it very stiff.

I am a fully qualified welder and its been me trade since I left school so positional welding is no problem.

My car is at a comfortable hight to weld the underneath so thanks for the tip on the chassis rails I would have completely overlooked them.

I am going down the cage route too I am going with the apex bolt together jobies from the group buy but I intend to weld plates in for it to fix it to.

I know on old rally cars they used to weld reinforcing plated in to stiffen up the body by the pilers ect I was wandering whether an s13 would benefit from a similar sort of thing.

i'd imagine so - the S15 uses a fair bit of bracing around the B pillar floor pan upwards & at the roof join, in the boot & round the sus turrets.
    white '94 s13 200sx scrapped - mapped to 1.45bar. OS giken box, garrett GT2876R, 950cc injectors, ORC twin plate, nistune. 349bhp/325lbft @ 1.3bar CA18DET
white '96 s13 180sx - type g with more kouki bits - RB25DET, GTR steel twin turbo conversion, RB26 crank & rods. 2.6L VVT twin turbo, SR20 OSG box, OSG STR twin plate clutch, Z32 ECU w/ nistune.

current status: 180 a bit broken but to be repaired.

    Hi m8,

Things are moving along slower than predicted ( I wanted the shell painted before winter set in ). I will stick some pics on here next week.

How's your beastie ? Done any more work on her.

Now I have got a new camera for Xmas its time to post up some pics...

Firstly underside all degreased and ready for stitchwelding.

Pic off the roll cage not finished yet as I still need some more door bracing and bracing between the hoop section and the rear.

Engine bay coming along, have welded up holes that are not required and tidied up.

Rear sections have been derusted and had a first coat off Electrox zinc primer

Finally a pic of one off the replaced rear sill sections.

Nothing quite as large scale as this! Its looking like quite a cage in it so far!

Changing the wheels, brakes, susupension ect. Hopefully will get 500hp out of it for next year getting there slowly, aiming to have her back on the road around June!

    Time for a mini update....

First couple off pics show the welded in front strut brace with extra bracing on the bulk head, welded to the buk head aswell.
Also you can see the bars coming in to the engine bay from the roll cage, these bars attach to the suspension turrets and are braced as they pass through the bulk head and on to the turrets.

I have also started cutting the dashboard to fit around the cage..

This pic shows the stitch welding on the chassis rails.

Getting near to paint time at last.....
