    Project S13 Refresh Version 2.0

Here we go again, This time I will try and keep the spend too below £3K.

Costed it out and I recon I might do it.

So we start with a H reg S13 , unfortunatly its an auto but there are a few good points.

    Engine is good no rattles
I can sell the wheels 18" ( anyone interested ) and the body kit to recoupe some off my costs.

Cost so far car £555 + transport £180

So Here's a few pics to start

Sone one's been abit keen with the red paint

    Those wheels are for sale.

Most off the sound deadening gone , and hardly any rust

Only one problem at the moment is that a sub boz has been bonded in to the spare wheel well with expanding foam and I cant get it out. Even with a crow bar!!!!

    Thanks

I am planning on 1 year to do the following,

Strip to shell remove all unnessesary metal work, roll over and remove all rust, seam weld.

    Full cage.

    Rebuild engine to spec3

    Make Fibreglass doors and bonnet

Repaint all in pure white ( still got 5 ltr left after last project )

I said I was going to build my S13 on £2.5k and have it done in 6 months.

So far, 7 months and £4k later... Not far off being done, kinda, ish, maybe...

Big thumbs up if you can stick to your plan and do it to budget and on time.

lol good luck ) I've only bought: Z32 brakes alround, work equip alloys, 5 stud conversion, new engine/gearbox/gt28r, alloy rad, downpipes/decat and I'm already over £3k eek (inc cost of original car).

If your tracking it concentrate on getting the suspension, handling and brakes sorted out rather than doing anything with the power at the moment

And of course, MAKE SURE you change oil filter/oil/fuel filter and air filter. Plus clean the AFM. Changing your gear and diff oil wouldn't be a bad idea either

I got quite a good deal on the car.

It already has a T3 ND turbo and a Z32 front brake upgrade.

I just got some 444cc injectors a Z32 AFM and a apexi filter for £110

    Total so far £845

I have been thinking about the rear wheel well, going too fit a fuel cell in there once I have cut out all the metal.

Can anyone see any issues with making the panel which will hold the cell out off fibreglass and then bonding that to the steel near the subframes ?

I want to make it out off fibreglass to reduce weight.

    Small Update

Not done too much at the moment , waiting to get the car home . However with the help off my mates ramp managed to strip all I wanted off ready for shot blasting.

I cant beleive the condition off the car , apart from the rear off the sills where they all rust this car is in vgc. Only surface rust at the rear,

For 18 years old thats not bad.

Its been a while since I did an update so here's whats been going on.

Finally got the car home and had the windows removed, front screen was hiding a few issues probibly due to a poor replacment done in the past.

So cleaned it up and derusted it. Will tig up the holes later

Engine bay is pretty good apart from a couple off small holes on the drivers side inner wing.

Also removed all the seam sealer ( less corrosion under there than on my 8 year newer S14a ) ready for stitch welding.

nice work mate, shell prep costs nothing but time and effourt so well worth doing now (apart from some mig wire and a little paint anyway)

get those subframes off and get yourself a full poly bush kit, dont worry about all these expensive adjustable arms for now, they are not a huge ammount of a performance gain anyway, they can be done later (and there is adjustment on the standard arms as it is so as long as you dont go silly low they will have enough adjustment to sort the allighnment out for the track easily)
put the money you save on arms to something more worthy like ARBs etc,

The plan is to turn it over and remove the subframes, then clean it all up stitch weld and then paint underneath. Then re polybush everything.

Arm wise I am not going to lower it to much so as you said the standard arms should be OK.

while you have them off, get the arms and weld plates to the bottom of all the ''U'' section ones, that gives them a lot more strength and tightens the handling up a little.

    Its time for a update...

Got both front and rear subframes off the car now and I still cant beleive how good the car is especially around the back, very little corrosion.

The worst bits are front drivers side inner wing

    and rear sills.

One side now done pics to follow.
