that is seriously pretty. lovely work.

I know you mentioned you were brushing 2k underneath a while ago - is that 2k sprayed in the bay?

Yes 2k sprayed in engine bay. Using a valspar non iso hardener which did harden eventually!!

Loged in after quite a while just to comment this update.
Man, she's a work of beauty. I've been following this thread closely for a while and I'm so happy for you to finally get to drive this SX!
I'm restoring mine and it's been three years now. I hope it won't take me as long hah :P

Thanks for the kind comments, it will be good to get some outside pics off the car and run it in. Got an insurance quote which was not bad £430 with all mods listed and agreed value.

So finally some outside pics, driven out on her own power. I would just like to say thanks for all the advice and technical help I have received over the years, without that this would of been alot harder.

    that is genuinely lovely. :

what's your set up for spraying the non iso 2k in terms of PPE etc? I'm currently going through the motions of getting PPE (great time for it!) and I've already ruled out doing proper iso 2k as I'm not going down the air fed mask route.

Was wondering about the non iso 2k stuff as to whether it's much better than just a 1k paint with a lacquer/clearcoat but haven't found much info on it.

You will need an air fed mask for 2k. Non iso 2k I tried valspar however it took a long time to harden fully approx 1 month, still better than 1k.

does the non iso 2k require an air fed supply as well? I don't trust my compressor or the likely quality of any air/oil/water separators I'd probably buy and I've no desire to give myself pneumonia either I don't have space to add another compressor either, so I think I'll have to stick to 1k if the non iso 2k needs air fed as well.

a month to harden isn't the end of the world. I've always avoided painting like the plague so I'm getting into it rather late.

do you mind if I drop you a message to go over it so I don't clutter up your thread? it's difficult to find someone who has direct experience of non-iso stuff, most professionals just gripe about it.

Have a look on the Valspar site. They have data sheets on it. I think you can use a normal respirator.

After running the car for a few hundred miles I have decided that the gauge position is poor and needs a rethink. After seeing a pod binnacle for sale I decided to make one myself.
So as I had a spare binnacle kicking around i had a go.

I also updated the stereo whilst I was at it.
