    s14 to s15 diff

Looking at the s15hlsd on the for sale section its comes with half shafts and is in its casing, is this a straight swap for a s14a manual diff or is the gearing different?

    Thanks
    Greg

Its a straight swap, the final drive is the same as the S14 manual, however there's no provision for hooking up the diff oil cooler

    Is that definite?
When I asked for the s15 ratios for my gearing calculator, someone told me it was 4.083.

I am 99.9% certain gearing is the same at S14 manual also.

My RB25 gearbox coupled with S15 diff gives really very long gearing, and my research into the diff revealed from many sources the ratio to be the same as S14 manual.

I don't understand why people keep saying that the RB25 box gives really long gearing, only 5th is notably longer, isn't it?

You're probably right... with my wheels / tyres / gearbox / diff however top speed would be well over 200 is revved to 9k... so it's pretty long in that respect.

Also would do 50 in 1st, which I thought fairly long?

I could be wrong, I am at work and dont have the links to where I found the gearing info to hand, sorry

The only S15 that had a different ratio HLSD was the Autech with 4.083

It doesn't, its just that 5th is a bit too tall

you dont really need the diff oil cooler any way so its not a problem, loads of people have been removing them as they seise from lack of use

ive ran with an s15 diff and no oil cooler for over a year... everything is fine..

i put the diff into my s14a casing with the s14a crown wheel and used the s15 output shafts...

Thats for the N/A S15, both the turbo S14 and S15 are 3.692

I'm guessing if there is no oil cooler provision on a s15 hlsd it's because it doesn't need it in the 1st place?

JDM S14s don't have them either, but UK ones do.

I'm not running a cooler either (S15 diff in S13 casing), i've connected the diff warning light up to the lower of the temp switches on the diff and have never had the warning light come on.

I think Kev (SM) might have seen high diff temps after a few track sessions since removing the cooler.

Yeah but what i'm saying is that if s15's don't use a oil cooler presumably that is because Nissan didn't see the need for one in the first place? Basically do any s15 spec-r's have diff oil coolers as standard? I'm going to be getting the s15 diff complete in its casing with the half shafts. I'm not just getting the guts.

If you wanted to run a cooler all you need to do is build the 14 box up with the 15 internals

As (I exepct) all S15s in the UK are JDM imports, then they probably wouldn't have diff coolers anyway as the JDM S14s didn't ave them either - only UK models, for whatever reason.

    I don't tihnk you'll have a problem though.

Nice. Well i've got both diff casings so it should not be a problem.

Are the crown-wheels a direct swap (including bolts) when swapping the S15 guts into the S14-diff ?
(the bolts are different sizes between S15 and s13, so some people make up tubular spacers)
Does anyone bother to shim it all up?

Regarding the diff cooler, the 110mph max speed limit on JDM cars might be a reason why Nissan saw fit not to include them (and also why there's no engine oil heat-exhangers either)
