Advisability of a bargain basement sleeper...

    Hi all,
Just day dreaming again really but can I have anyone's thoughts on the idea of making a bargain basement road legal street sleeper?

I was thinking of finding a CA18 in decent nick (possibly in an s13 and sell all the other parts to recoup money) and shoe-horning it into something suitably lame and shopping-trolley looking.
Everything that didn't need fabricating could be second hand, i'm sure I have a bunch of favours I could call in to keep costs of specialist work down too, so what sort of price do you think this would be do-able for?

The issues I can see are finding a RWD crappy little car to put the engine in, it has to be something small and lightweight so I don't need bonkers power, there are loads of FWD options, old old shape Micra being my favourite but converting it to take a RWD drivetrain would be megabucks, surely?

I just think it would be ludicrously good fun to embarrass a few shiny 'sports' cars in a crappy old rusty shopping trolley with 1.0 litre badges on the back!

So, any suggestions for any RWD based small cars that are readily available?

And suggestions or breakdowns on the possible costs?

    Old Volvo's don't rust

They are also the most horrifically vile things to drive. Ever. Ever.
Plus bandwagons are leading to elevated prices.

Lots. And the emotional, physical, and mental cost is even greater

My previous comments were aimed at 340's.
I imagine a 240 DL estate would be worse, but fcuk would it be cool

    S12.

Get sold for peanuts and it's already got a CA in it.

Not exactly a sleeper, but at the same time, old enough that a quick one would suprise people I reckon.

There's loads of Datsun's that look crap that the engine won't take too much work to fit in there. In terms of fitting a CA to a non Nissan/Datsun is that quite a few more things aren't compatible.

Not sure how you would fit one easily to a volvo 340. They're transaxle, which means you can't use the CA gearbox unless you replace with a normal axle, or you have to use the volvo bellhousing etc on the CA.

You could get a crap Bluebird like mine. There's one for sale on Pistonheads for £500.
