as a side note this is not my engine, someone from Romania opened an CA18DET engine and found this mess, anyway how could that happen i understand the head gasket blows ... but melting like this the head ????

Could have been an escaped turbo hamster.

Those things have got tough teeth, you can sometimes see the marks they leave on the blades of a failed turbo, I'm not surprised that happened if one got into the engine.

If you look closely you can see the textured pattern where it's been nibbled away.

Not mice or any other metal nibbling rodent. More likely a rubber eating worm put a pin hole in a coolant hose.

Sometime in the engines past it got very hot, warping the head, resulting in uneven gasket clamping pressure. It can take 5-6K miles for the gasket to actually fail after the overheating event.

It will weld up, may need straightening to remove any warp and then skim.

There could be a shallow depression in top of block too. It will need a very light cut to clean up.

Could at least have trimmed the cereal packet inlet gasket to shape. It's a JAP 8 port head.
