    harnesses?do i? dont i?

got a stage2 s13 with s14 leathers i will mainly be carrying myself, the missus and the baby girl in back do you think would be a good idea to fit harnesses? i wanto but wanted to know how people have coped in my situation?also a plus side is i can bolt them to where the rear clasps are so im still using an existing seatbelt structured point and due to no middle seat no problem

A nsf harness could be dangerous to the baby, it could twist the seat if it's used but if it's just for looks then it will be fine Ideally you should use longer bolts to hold the clasps and harnesses to the standard mountings You'll also need to keep both rear clasps for mot purposes

Well mine go through the seat and onto the standard rear seatbelt mounting points. I cant get anything in the back with the harness usable!

yeah but im looking to put my rear mount into the same hole as the claps for rear belts ie the middle seat

Harnesses are good and bad for safety and a complete pain in the arse for everyday use.

    Let me explain.

If the harness is tightened correctly so it is effective in case off an accident it makes it very difficult to adjust for example the stereo volume or reach for anything, For that reason you will drive around with them loose making them worse than a normal seatbelt.

Secondly every time some one different gets in the passenger seat you have to explain how they work and help them adjust them.

Then when you open and close the door they get caught up and wreck your door cards etc. Which will be worse on a normal car seat as there are no slots to keep them in place.

Its a nice idea fitting them but imo a pain in the asre.

Oh and you will have poor access to the rear.

But they are not ideal mounting points as the harness would not be central to the user It's the angle involved that concerns me about twisting the baby seat

Shouldnt use harnesses for seats that weren't designed for harnesses. Can do more harm than good in an accident. Some people won't even run a harness without a full cage!

Is this to do with the whole mounting issue and how important it is???

HEard stories of people not mounting them correctly.....car flips on its roof and driver slams into roof too If mounted wrong they offer no support if you flip your car....

Don't quote me on that but it's what I have heard.......and seen on "Discovery Turbo"

I use a harness so I don't have to hang onto the steering wheel and brace myself with the seat when I go around corners on the track. I had looked into making a harness bar to go between the rear seatbelt upper mounting points to improve the angle of the straps but I haven't got around to it.

Its a few things. An OEM seat will react differently to a fixed back bucket seat in an accident. Harnesses are fine with fixed back buckets (which won't collapse), but even then they have to be mounted correctly to stop them pulling downwards on your back in an accident. When using a bucket seat & harness, a cage is also good idea. In a rollover a harness and bucket will hold you upright in your seat unlike an OEM belt and seat which will allow you to slide in to your seat, or fold backwards, meaning your more likely to smoosh your head on the roof with a bucket (unless you have a cage).

In summary (as my point isnt very clear), the correct way to do things is Harness, Bucket Seat and Cage, or nothing. (None of us do that though)

This is my understanding of it, but I may be wrong, so open to corrections

I'd have harnesses purely so no one would ask for a lift anymore.
