Always been an exponent of learning by doing but never quite had the balls to do it with something as big as a car. Y'know. Something that could flip out and kill me, without a second thought.

    Still. Its all very impressive.

OK not much progress really, more event report. august 17th saw me competing at Curborough sprint circuit nr Lichfield. its a track i know really well, although dont really like. id booked a morning test session on the ssturday morning to shake the car (and driver...) down and try and sort a niggling leccy water pump/airlock issue made worse by the fact the rads in the boot.
bit of fannying around and help from StewB and Pete Silcock, saw the water problem sorted, so a few test runs were done. the new full width and 5.5ft long diffuser tunnel lasted 40metres before i managed to rip it clean off arse!

anyway car checked out OK and felt awesome.
Sundays event dawned dry and bright, so down to some serious times
2 practice runs and 3 timed runs saw all 5 within .45s of each other 59.23 was the best, and gave me class win and overall event win!! mega chuffed, my first ever overall FTD, although to be fair there were no westfield-type cars or single seaters.

my fastest time turned out to be only .2s slower than Curborough outright track ModProd over 2000cc track record set in 1997 (iirc). look at the data of the runs, if i add my best start 64ft time, 1st lap split etc i would be .4s quicker than my best and .2s under the track record.
few changes to setup and spring rates needed, and then i shall be back for a crack at the record
ive started to formulate plans for next seasons mods too now

bit of an update and not good...
i was competing at a Prescott Hillclimb yesterday (venue of sxoc weekender) and crashed in the middle Ess of the Esses on my first run of the day
basically arrived at the second apex too fast, panicked, braked, locked fronts (cold full slicks, rears warm due to wheelspin off start), realised i had no steering, off the brakes to steer and missed tyre wall to hit the armco
    damage so far...
front right wheel, upper wishbone, right hand side of nose wrecked, most of r/h side panels damaged, steel front armature wrecked, I/C duct damaged, crank angle sensor broken.
possible damage to lower wishbone and possibly chassis but im hoping not.

will assess this week as am entered to season finale at castle Combe on October 18th. if i can get it mechanically repaired i will bodge the bodywork with tank tape and tywraps and run at Combe and then make new mouldings and replace during the winter, but if not may just start the winter rebuild early. will sort some pics when i have the heart to go back into the garage
