    Renting property with a dog.

Very soon I am looking to relocate to between Gloucester and Bristol. We were looking to buy a 2nd property but with the volatile market at the moment, we have decided to rent providing we can find a landlord willing to accommodate my dog.

Has anyone had any experience finding somewhere to rent when they have a pet?

None of the main sites give it as an option when searching so it makes looking very difficult.

Any help/advice (other than getting rid of the dog ) appreciated.

    Thanks

When we rented we had to have the house professionally cleaned including carpets when we left, and the house inspected to check for any signs that we'd had a dog.
    Was a right PITA

Also didn't help they were both puppies and decided the kitchen lino looked tasty so i had to replace that and also re-turf the rear garden because Dogs kill grass

Still though the rental company was happy for us to have pets as long as we agreed to the cleaning.

    Been in this situation before.
Most places will refuse you if you mention you have a pooch.. Like 95%!

We had a nightmare, so decided to just not tell the agency. Everytime they came to inspect one of us took the dog out for a walk.
We're tidy people anyways, so they never knew.
I moved out, and then needed to rent in the area again 6 months later. I went to the same agency, and the owner of the agency said we couldn't have a dog. So I told her we had 1 before, and she said it was fine =P

I just wouldn't bother telling them tbh

I cant really see an issue as long as the dogs not barking all night and annoying the neighbours for them to complain to the agents

I had to sign a non smoking clause in my contract but i only smoke outside so not really an issue, if i had told them i was a smoker they would not have let me have the house.

not quite the same as a dog but if it's a mellow dog then i really wouldn't worry about it

He is generally well behaved, but a guard dog by nature so goes fcuking loopy when the post man comes to the door and such like. Not mentioning him will be a big worry cos he will have his sessions protecting the house

we got a dog a little while after we moved in, 6 months passed and the letting agent knocked on the door, out runs our dog!

I popped in to pay the rent a couple of days later and he said nothing about the dog, only the window which I cracked moving in

What about getting the dog to rent the place and you go on as the pet? If they think the dog is super clever they might think it's pretty cool.

The last 3 places I've lived and had a dog, they were fine with it. 1 lady was a little concerned as we didn't have a garden at that address but when we said we take him down to the stables once or twice a day and my other half works just down the road from the house, there was no problems as long as we pay for any damage )as per usual tenancy agreements)

On thread we rent however yes our contract strictly states no pets and no smoking.

Though I guess it would be down the individual landlord to see if you could negotiate, as said agree to have an inspection before/during/afterwards and agree on any upkeep etc.

Any reasonable landlord should be flexible enough if you can show that your dog is good tempered etc and you are willing to do everything to keep the place in a decent condition. Also as it is a 2nd property would you be there all the time? Perhaps that would be a factor as well?
