Can I swap my cam shafts around??

    Hiya - appreciate any advice...

Got a re-engineered head about to fit but looks like the cam with the D lug for the CAS is on the left hand side - noticed all the brackets holding them in are numbered and sided - does that mean I can't just swap them back around??

the cams you can swap with no problems, the brackets that hold the cams are specific to the head, so must be on their places.

The brackets match the cams, as the cams wear into them and its utterly important to keep those together!

Ok then, so what happens when you swap to a pair of uprated cams then? Get new cam caps do you?

    Don't know

All I know is I have been told to keep the brackets with the cams as they wear into eachother and swapping would result in the end of the world. However new cams may have extremly tuff alloys that don't care about the relief caused by the previous cams in the brackets-caps. Orrr...they might have a soft alloy on top that wears into the old bracket after the first spin.

Arry - what do you recommend?? Have to swap them round but do I swap caps too? Have the cams and caps from the old head - could use these but new ones look better... Help!!

from what I understood... the caps match the head, not the cams... and their position is essencial when reassembling the head/cams/caps...

    no,
keep the caps in the correct place on each head, they are line bored together so are unique to each location on that particular head they will not be properly round if fitted to another head. swap away with the cams if they are in good nick

Putting them on in the wrong order can cause serious problems, but the cams can be swapped around as you like.

indeed...the running surface of the cams is supposed to be round...
The same with the cap and head half circle shapped things.

They cant be changed as easy as a cam....

So please keep them caps on the same place as you take them off
