    * at least, that's what my parents told me at the time and this was the 70s after all
I had a Kia Pride 1.3 LX. It wasn't exactly luxury.

I wonder what the base model didn't have compared to the LX?
I did have a sunroof tho and a clock in the dash, but that's about it.

I heard somewhere that it stood for 'Silvia Xperimental' because they used the 180sx as a testbed to trial all the upgrades from the S12 that were goinging onto the S13.

Amazing that the Japanese always use English to name their car models

Do you think the Japanese have the same conversation about the UK cars

"Harro wat you fink Fiesta LX stand for ??"

"I heard it stand for 'Li Xui' " after Chan Xuis favorite child "

LX is 'meant' to stand for Luxury Xtra

Makes me think SX stands for:

    Silvia Xtra or Sports Xtra

I don't know... can you tell??

No that theory is wrong. The S12 Silvia was called the 200SX in the US of A way back in '84

I used to work for Nissan and have an original brochure for a S14a, and can tell you ..................... not an awful lot really!

Nothing in the brochure and when we were developing cars like the Micra, Qashqai, Navara etc the names always related to something but suffix letters were just picked to 'fit' the name.

That may well be, but the car wasnt created in the US it was created in JPN and they called it the Silvia (S12).

So people are saying some jap called the newly created 200Sx because it meant 'Silvia X-Ray'

Get back in reality. It's soo simple. Silvia sounded shit. So they thought of an international name waayyy back in 1984 (before half this board was even born) even before the S13 was even thought of so thats it. It stuck. Simple

The japanese don't know what Silvia means let alone that it relates to some old woman who collects her pension with water retention, so the name would never work internationally.
