    Question Auto performance

    Hello all

Just test driven a 98 S14a Auto and was concerned about a few things.
Although there were no 60mph roads nearby, I did open it up down one stretch and it didn't seem that quick after kicking down, - brisk but not pin you to the seat quick as I was expecting. When I was doing a 3 point turn, I noticed that the engine seemed a bit 'tappety' - is this usual when the engine has been running for about 5mins? I would have thought the oil would be warm enough to quieten this down by then?
Also, whats the difference in outright performance between maunal and auto - this one certainly didn't feel like it had sub 7 secs to 60 performance.

Put me off a bit really despite the car looking nice. Suppose I'll keep looking for the right one.

When i was looking i tested an auto. Have to say that i was the same as you, not overly impressed. When i finally got the manual (bought it without seeing it ) and drove off from the dealer, i gave it some welly and SHEEEEIIITT it went well. Keep looking, it's an awesome car if you get a goodun. Sounds like the one you tried might have had some faults

Should accellerate very hard in kickdown (just like tha manual in fact)

    Shouldn't be any tappety noise.

Sounds like it was a duff one.

Get a manual, this is a drivers car and i feel the auto takes that away from the car

I've driven both and feel it doesn't.

    It's down to personal choice.
