you'll never be able to get it down to the weight of a Moly one, and for the price of them it's not worth the risk or bother messing around with a std fly

I dont think he means lightening, he's talking about skimming the face due to wear. I honestly dont know the limits for the standard thickness

i run a lightened standard flywheel with no issues whatsoever, not saying there wont be further down the line tho.

imo there is nothing wrong with using the standard one, a bought lightened flywheel stands just as much chance of blowing as a lightened standard one imo

Off-shelf lightened ones are often stronger

/\ /\ what he said, made of alloys such as Chrome-Molybdenum Steel to save weight but maintain strength, whereas a std one is'nt so removing mass from the std one will weaken it (depending on how much is removed of course)

You don't buy a lightened flywheel, you buy a lighter flywheeler.

A pukka steel/ally fly has nowhere near the same chance of disintegrating as one you turned half an inch off on your hobby lathe

Ive used a stock flywheel with 3.5kg removed from it for the last 3 years with no problems at all. As long as the machinist hasnt gone mental with the lathe and its balanced theres no problem.

The flywheel is damaged/weared because of the worn clutch, im not going for lighter flywheel
