    200sx related Glossary

    Here is a useful guide to acronyms and other phrases used on SXOC:

    Post below with your contributions and I'll put them into this main thread.

    ---

    ABS - Antilock Braking System
    AFM - Air Flow Meter
    BMEP- (Brake Mean Effective Pressure) - This is the average effective cylinder pressure that does useful work calculated from the brake horse power.
    BOV - Blow Off Valve (See DV)
    CAS - Crank Angle Sensor
    CPS - Camshaft Position Sensor
    DV - Dump Valve (See BOV)
    ECCS - Electronic Concentrated Control System
    ECU - Electronic Control Unit
    FBU - Free Boost Upgrade
    FMIC - Front Mounted InterCooler
    FPR - Fuel Pressure Regulator
    IC - Intercooler
    JDM - Japanese Domestic Market

    Nissan Engine Nomenclature
    Normally first two letters identify engine family, two numbers identify cubic capacity, further letters identify other specifications.

    Example
    CA18DET - CA range of engines, 1.8 litre, Dual overhead camshafts, Electronic fuel injection, Turbocharged.
    RB26DETT - RB range of engines, 2.6 litre, Dual overhead camshafts, Electronic fuel injection, Twin Turbocharged.

    Nissan 200sx models and variants:

    S13 actually refers to the CA18DET powered S13 Silvia ('88-'91).
    RS13 is the correct chassis designation for the CA18DET powered 200SX, or early JDM 180SX ('89-'95 200SX, '89-'91 180SX)
    PS13 refers to the SR20DET powered Silvia ('91-'94).
    RPS13 refers to the SR20DET powered 180SX('91-'97)
    S14 the '95-'97 200SX or Silvia(JDM) SR20DET powered. 197bhp.
    S14a the '97 to 2000 200SX and Silvia (JDM) SR20DET powered. 197bhp.
    S15 - Most recent 200sx model. Not available to UK market. 2.0 litre 'SR20DET' engine. Approx 250bhp

    S13 is the common and accepted "nickname" for the RS13 200SX. The "P" means the car has the SR20DET engine, "R" means it has the fastback shell.

    SilEighty (Sil80) hybrid derivative of the S13 Silvia and S13 180SX. It has the Silvia front body panels mated to the 180SX rear. Most are originally 180SX' built buy drifters who damaged the front panels and found the Silvia front cheaper to replace. Nissan made a limited production run of these cars set up from the factory for drifting.
    OneVia another derivative of the S13 chassis'. This one has the Silvia rear with 180SX front panels.

    Also,

    Zenki - Early Model of Car
    Chuki - Middle Model of Car
    Kouki - Late Model of Car

    (These dont just apply to Nissans, its a common Japanese term for "terms".. The "Former Term", or the "Latter Term" is how they are often translated)

    US Models

    The 'S' chassis was also available in the US under the name 240SX. The S13 was available as a Hatchback (same as the UK 200SX and JDM 180SX) and a Coupe (180/200SX front end with JDM Silvia rear end - aka Onevia). It was fitted the the KA24E engine - a normally aspirated, 2.4L, 4 cylinder, SOHC engine. Body and chassis parts are the same as the other S13 models. The S14 240SX shared the same body as the S14 200SX/Silvia and was fitted with the KA24DE engine. Again, body and chassis parts are the same.

    Units and Conversions:
    Nm - Newton Metres, units to measure torque.
    BHP Brake Horse Power, unit of power
    lbft Pounds foot, unit of torque
    Kw KiloWatt, unit of power
    Bar Unit of pressure
    PSI Pounds per Square Inch, unit of pressure

    1PS = 0.9863 bhp
    1Nm = 1.35 Lb-ft
    1kW = 1.34 bhp
    1 Bar = 14.5 PSI
    1 Atmosphere = 14.7 PSI
    1 cubic inch (ci) = 16.387064 cubic centimeter (cc)

    Big End Bearing Failure: MP3 File
    The sound you hear above is possibly the most common 'major' component failure in the S13 model 200sx, next to turbocharger failure.

    I love the LH1 paint code, they could be even more vague if they wanted..

    The fact it looks Silver Blue obviously isn't important...!
