    George & Annalie's S13

    Right, here we go!

This car has been evolving for a number of years now and I just thought I would put all the bits and pieces that have been done to it into one thread.

A bit of history about the car, I bought this car off 'Marky Boy' on here who really managed to offload a complete rust bucket! We've had the car since 2004 and it has rarely been on the road since as I keep doing things to it. It's a 1990 S13 manual in blue.

Phase 1 - The wedding car.

I can't remember quite how this came about but it was decided that we would use the old S13 for our wedding car. But seeing as the thing was a bit of a heap at the time it was going to need a major revamp, and we only left ourselves 2 months to do it before our wedding

This is an example of the general state of the underneath of the car:

I actually found a entire newspaper stuffed into the sill and covered with filler, they must have had their stetsons on that day.

We were working in the old silo at this point and the car was stripped down for all the welding that was needed underneath:

The chassis legs and sills as well as the rear arches were almost completely remade with new metal, yawn.

    The sound deadening in place:

    The sound deadening removed:

And the poor buggers who had to do it!

With the car all welded up and ready to get a lick of paint we had to move it to the garage, I thought this day would never come!

Yay, it feels like we're getting somewhere after countless hours with the MIG:

The shell is surprisingly light and we managed to lift it onto the back of the trailer between two of us:

    Now for the painting!

First a random cylinder head shot, I had it off for a refurb while I was at it, I think this is it back on the engine:

A few pics of Annalie wiping down the car after she had masked it up:

She's a grafter The number on her arm is just the number of years she was inside!

I think this was the car all filled and ready to go:

We had the island games in the middle of it, I'll see if I can get some pics of that at some point. We had about 15 Faroese clay pigeon shooters living with us, so Stewart hacked the top off an old 305 and got it running by putting a gallon drum of fuel in the engine bay and using that as a tank. It was so they could go driving through the fields shooting rabbits from the back of it on a platform. Yehaaarr! This is the only pic I could find:

Afraid not, one's a cellist and the other ones a consultant anaesthatist, both crap with cars

The same Pugeot 305 kindly donated it's washer bottle for the cause. The only downside with having this in the boot is that the scooshers go when you hit the brakes

Some more masking and rubbing down pics, I'm not sure why Annalie was on top of the car.

The wheel arches took a bit of work to get perfect:

In the meantime, Annalie got on with getting the subframes back together:

I'm a bit nervous about driving a car that she screwed together

Then came the paint! I used a Vauxhall colour (code 4JU), I think it looks OK.
From the front, you can see my new box section front cross member:

    And the back:

Even decided to do the inside:

The doors were stripped and hung up for painting:

I'll take the one that's the consultant anaesthetist please.

Looking good, looks like you got a bit carried away with the power on the rear suspension.

Now we started to get the damn thing back together, bearing in mind the wedding was in a week and we're only doing this after work.

Annalie got her subframes back on, complete with rusty old KYBs, we were running out of time and just needed it on the road:

    And the five stud hubs:

And a couple of hours later we had some wheels on:

You'll have to be quick, she's getting married in February!

There's no powder on the rear suspension, this is prior to me starting my powder coating business, it is powder coated now though.

It started coming together at a rate of knots at this point. This was the day we got the engine back in:

My brother in law was helping but as soon as he saw how we were doing it he left muttering something about health and safety

It's worth mentioning at this point that the project was sponsored almost exclusively by Tennents Lager:

Now that the engine was in we just needed to do all the fiddly bits and I think we had about three days to go!

I made a front mount intercooler while all this was going on, I bought the core from Pace products:

It's starting to look more like a car again!

And finally it emerged from the garage two days before the wedding:

After a few tense hours at the MOT station when we finally got the emissions under control by adjusting the idle valve, we had a legal car the day before the wedding! Yay.

I don't know why, but Lesley had our suits at Braefield and we had to go and pick them up:

And finally some cheesy shots of the wedding day.

    Signing the register:

And a couple of shots at the beach on the way to the reception, I think the bonnet badge kind of sums it up:

    I think I did well.

We don't wear kilts up here, it's more of a Scottish thing.
