It's just gathering dust in the shed at the moment. It would take me a whole weekend to swap the turbo onto the new engine and get it in the car, and I just haven't had a chance. Annalie has promised to give me a weekend off though, so it will be on the road for next summer. It's just not a winter car anymore and I wouldn't trust myself on anything but a dry road.

    It will live again!

I've been looking at this thread for long time and coming back too!

Your build impressed me big time, I got myself exact same turbo (that got me stuck for a while) and put a good CA18det into s14 silvia. I took lazy route though and I'm using Evo manifold.

Looks like my car will be ready in 2 weeks so I'll report on the turbo too. If it performs that good I might give up the twin charging idea altogether (I planned to use Roots supercharger for response).

It's only taken about 10 years. We got the replacement engine stripped down last night. Now we need to unearth the car from the shed next weekend and remove the engine so I can find out what size the forged pistons are for the rebore.

At least I have an enthusiastic teenager to help!

    Yeah, he's getting useful now!

It's nice to be back on the SXOC, I can't believe some of the old gang are still on here. This was an awesome forum in it's heyday.

There's nothing too horrifying inside the donor engine. The bottom sprocket took a bit of a battering during removal. One of the cam lobes has some pitting and the bores could do with a bit of attention. On the plus side, the main journals and the rod journals are the right size and they're still round and the ARP head bolts were a nice surprise.

That's it out of the shed and feeling a bit sorry for itself. Even Dad leant a hand getting the engine out.

    looks good

be interesting to see what state the chassis is in underneath and how much you've got to do - I've still got some spare CAs in various states I picked up ages ago, let me know if you're stuck for bits.
    white '94 s13 200sx scrapped - mapped to 1.45bar. OS giken box, garrett GT2876R, 950cc injectors, ORC twin plate, nistune. 349bhp/325lbft @ 1.3bar CA18DET
white '96 s13 180sx - type g with more kouki bits - RB25DET, GTR steel twin turbo conversion, RB26 crank & rods. 2.6L VVT twin turbo, SR20 OSG box, OSG STR twin plate clutch, Z32 ECU w/ nistune.

current status: 180 a bit broken but to be repaired.

That's the block and the head packed up and ready to go to Precision Engine Services in Inverness for their holidays.

The crank looks to be within tolerance so it will just get some 1500 grit wet and dry followed by some metal polish to bring the journals back to a mirror finish.

Hopefully I can task the youngsters with that job!

Before and after. I'm not going crazy with it but I'm making sure I can't feel any ridges with my nail.

It's a lot better than it was. The centre main bearing took the most work for some reason. It has some scoring that took a bit of shifting. I rechecked the sizes when I'd finished but I've made very little difference to it. I'll also need to fill the corrosion around the end with Belzona or something so I get a good seal at the front end.

You can get sleeve kits that allow the oil seal to ride on 'fresh' material if you don't fancy the bonded schmoo approach.

    https://www.skf.com/uk/products/indu...-speedi-sleeve

SKF do them as well as a few others.

Thanks Alan, I didn't know you could get them. It might be a better option!
