are diesel intercoolers different from petrol?

are the intercoolers found on diesels of a different set up in any way from petrol engined ones?
i have tried to search on the net but can't find any definitive answers, reason i ask i think i've found a diesel intercooler which fits nicely in the front of the s13 few cut's req but it has a vastly bigger capacity than most others i've seen.

No mate, they all work under the same principles of heat exchangers,

a diesel one will work just fine on a pertol application

good for around 1000 horses i bet

Now all you need is an engine to match it

    the ticker?....progress? or intercooler
no not as yet but it should arrive here as though sants himself delivered it on wed night...it had better fit took a lot of persuading to get it, i'm also planning on the oil cooler from a 360 14 ton machine as well as it's a decent width and only about 100mm (i think) in height

all intercoolers work on the same principals, some are just better than others it depends on how its been designed as opposed to what it was fitted to petrol or diesel, often large ones are of a poor design as its cheaper to build a large poor one, if there's room for it, than a small good one. i'd be sceptical of one from a cat as the're not exactly short of room! but if its big enough who cares! whack some pics up...

Friend of mine drove with a Kia Sorento intercooler for quite a while
    Worked out pretty good.

Less lag than with a big one

the bendy's aren't all that huge! certainly on the 777's etc there isn't a shortage of room, but the one i'm eagerly awaiting is of one of the smaller dumptruck's and hopefully it will fit nicely, might need to be angled though.

if you have the chance look at a:
    - VW1.9 TDI IC
    - iveco or mercedes sprinter intercooler
    - truck intercooler

the truck ones seams to have bigger space between tubes and also bigger tubes, they do not seams to nice for our application , to big

a sprinter or a iveco one sems ok, if you find it for no money, i wold compare them with volvo/saab intercoolers

Sprinter intercoolers are thin and weak.

A truck intercooler now that would be fun.

in fact i tried to use one on the 200SX but it is longer then the space between the pop up lights if i member correctly,

and i also remember that both iveco and sprinter have plastic ends....

anyway the truck ones (i do not have a picture handy) are to big and the core looks different, from the core that is found on our cars
