    Affordable, appreciating classics

Following on really from the "Supercars for Mondeo money" thread, I've been having thoughts for a while now about buying a modern classic.

Reasons for this are that a) I don't do many miles, and now have a garage so it can sit in relative comfort and b) I'm losing that "Must drive everywhere at 300 mph" attitude, so can probably afford to drop to something that's nippy not fast, but still fun.

That said - shortlist so far is:
    Audi UR Quattro
    Lancia Delta HF Integrale
    Followed by:
    Fiat 128 2 door
    Triumph TR6
    Datsun 240z

Any other suggestions / recommendations? I'm looking at no more than £10k really.

Does the Integrale fit into the "nippy not fast" category?

US late 60s muscle cars seem to be the fastest appreciating classics at the moment. You might have missed that particular boat, however.
    Rover P5s & P6s are climbing in value (V8 goodness )
Early capris & granadas (The Professionals or The Sweeny - take your pick)
MGBs (still pretty good value, easyish to live with)
    Early TVRs
    Jensen Interceptors
    Various Lotuses (if you're brave)
EDIT: Forgot to include Reliant Scimitar GTEs - still very good value, but definitely creeping up. Get one while you still can!

These are just the kind of things I think about when I have the same idle thoughts as you.

Ask GMaster about Vauxhall Omega's and Carlton's...

They're 'fun' and definately 'not nippy'

Not sure about appreciating classics though...

Try a Honda Legend - cheap as chips, rare(ish), more reliable than grey clouds in Britain and full of toys

Definitely not brave so I've ruled out some from your quote No muscle cars for me either as although I don't do many miles, I still need it to be reasonably practical.

The 964 variant of the 911 is approx 1989 to 93'ish. 10k just about gets you a good one, they are hardly depreciating. They are one of the last 911's to be easy to work on and service, and the NA ones especially are very reliable. Bodies do not rot at all.

The 964 can be had in 2 or 4wd, and had everything is should do like ABS, full electrics and was the first 911 with superb handling. Brakes and gearbox up to scratch. The prices are starting to get silly on the RS versions, and due to teh tiem of year bargains can be had.

    Jensen Interceptor,for sure,gorgeous cars!
    Triumph Stag
    Celica Supra

my friend just bought a 260z,lucky git.It cost £3.5k,and with a bit of attention will probably be worth double that.Came with high-lift cams and triple carbs, too!

If i had the money,i'd DEFINITELY go for a Mazda Cosmo 110s.They look like cute little spaceships!
