Yeah it'll fit if you make sure you get the rubber bushes for the front bolts and swap your S13 diff backplate onto it. You'll need the full R33 driveshafts as well (thicker than S13 ones).

Oh, and you'll have to ditch your diff oil cooler and probably it won't have an ABS sensor, so your ABS won't work

Should do, might still need to use the R33 shafts though because of the splines on the half-shafts and then the 5 bolt pattern.

the whole point of fitting the R33 diff is to alter the final drive, what's the point in fitting what is essentially the same part back in?

because r33 plated lsd's are as cheap as chips on ebay

next time I've got one apart I'll check for you but they should be the same as they are both R200's

So if you can use the R33 diff with S13 backplate.

Do the R33 shafts fit the S13 hubs ?

    Many thanks for confirming

That must mean that the R33 shafts will also fit the S14 hubs when I go 5 stud so I get a whole rear setup of R33 / S14 rather then having to faff about finding 300ZX bits

Slightly off topic I know, but do I take it that using an S14 diff with S13 backplate does have a compatible ABS sensor which accordingly works when you do that swap ?

As I was thinking about maybe doing it but if the ABS is disabled I couldn't face having to swap back and forth every year at MOT time.....

Yes, it does, but if you're worried about the MOT issue, all you have to do is disconnect the ABS bulb and wire it in parallel with the battery light.

All they check at the MOT is that the light comes on with the ignition and goes out on engine start

Sorry to dig this thread up again, but I just wanted to clarify some things...

The main advantage for me to using the GTS diff is the thicker driveshafts (for others it will be to alter the final drive).

From looking through this and other threads it seems like there are the following two options to achieve this:

Swap the R33 diff casing with S13 backplate - we know this will work as others have done it, but you will loose your ABS, and need to use the rubber bushes from the R33 to mount the diff at the front.

Swap the R33 diff into the S13 casing using the S13 ring gear & pinion at the front of the casing - But do we know if this will work? Can anyone confirm this?
If this is possible, you can keep the ABS and it will be a straight bolt-in swap.

In terms of diff operation, the S13 and R33 diffs are VLSDs and work in the same way, without either being able to lock the wheels any better than the other.

So, I want to check if I'm correct in my assumptions above, and to see if anyone has done option 2 - swapping the R33 diff into the S13 casing.

    Thanks all

I found that my R33 diff tended to lock up better than any S13 vLSD I've used, but that might be due to less mileage I suppose?

My R33 VLSD is worse than the the S13 one I took out. Its basicly an open diff now it seems.
I have had a torsen unit to put in it... but Ive not got round to that yet

Do they not need to be shimmed to get the right clearances? Maybe you did this, but the plate clearances must be right for it to work properly.
