    Genesis - Lose Control

i thought i might aswell hop aboard the project bandwagon.

started out by buying myself a totally standard 1998 200SX touring manual.

the car when i first went 2 to see it.

i didnt buy it at that price, but after negotiation settled on a tidy price.
    (SOLD )

soon as i got the car back to mine, serviced it: Oil, oil filter, fuel filter, colder plugs, air filter etc..
    fitted the following
    Apexi air filter
    boost gauge &manual boost controller
    SARD R2D2
sprayed the indicators, repeaters and rear centre section of the light clusters black

next was to source some Advans. after much waiting i won a set on ebay 17x8 and 17x9

opened the headlight casings and sidelight's and sprayed the insides black, look so much better.

i found a original Hippo sleek front bumper on the sxoc, however it was damaged, got a good price for it, so fixed it up, sprayed the damaged part and put it on the car. (build quality is outstanding!!)

oh by this point i lowered the car on some Tein S-tech springs, tinted the windows and fitted a tacho with shift light.
short while after i sprayed my advan spokes black, and painted the calipers red and changed the pads

Next was to fit the Blue flame full exhaust sytem including both decats (at this point the car was pushing 256bhp, 220ft,lb at 12psi at SVA in kent). and shortly afterwards a Apex type 1 FMIC

shortly afterwards got my hands on a walbro, so i could wack the boost up to 14psi.....continued.......

Unfortunately the turbo water feeds split on me, so the whole lot needed to come out. because funds where tight at the time i just bought braided water feeds and not the oil one.

    car running all smooth again.

handling was still feeling a bit unpredictable so got myself some locking collars, to lock the subframe in place.
fitted new instrument dials and oil pressure, oil temp, and water temp gauges

few more pics at that stage

sprayed the rocker cover and hot pipe in 2K paint

woke up one day and felt the urge to pull out the angle grinder.

by this point the front bumper was looking very tatty and was in desperate need of a re-spray. managed to get my hands on a rear bumper, so thought i'd spray it all in one go. fitted some bonnet pins too.

    .....continued....

    ....
front bumper was in some need of some tlc

    after spraying

fitted (note the rear bumper needed a cut and polish)

at this point the bloody turbo gasket went (mani-tubby) and i think the turbo oil feed cracked, so whipped the whole lot out again, and changed the bits.

i could feel the clutch was on its way out (slipping all over the place) so ordered an organic one from ACT, cleared out the pit, and called ma mate over.

    skimmed flywheel

    clutch

    pressure plate

you wouldnt believe how stuck my gearbox sump plug was, so i had to resort to draining the box like this over night.

The wheels where getting a bit tatty and where in need of a refurb, so i got all the tyres taken off, and thought i'd try something different

note in the pics the red looks bit pinky, i can assure you its a strong cherry red.

got my hands on some sideskirts

    and a driftworks carbon wing

wasnt happy with the height of the spoiler so i chopped off about 10cm from the legs

sprayed the interior trim bits, along with the spark plug cover

My Cusco 5 point half cage arrived

ignore the messy wiring was all tidied up. havent actually got any pics of it in the car (it is in the car, lol) will take some soon

Thats pretty much how my car stands as it is, apart from i got a 4 point harness fitted in there too. I've ordered some Apex coilovers 8/6s

Still to do: fit new wheels, fit apex coilovers, roll and flare all four arches. Vent the front wings. Re-spray front bumper for the 3rd time, re-spray wings, and finish the bonnet i started almost a year ago!! (basically re-spray the whole front end)
Spray cage red, polybush whole subframe, get alignment arms, upgrade brakes, and then the car will be ready for the major power upgrade, which is not being disclosed as of now, until my plans are concrete.

next major update will be at the end of this month, once i've finished my exams.

Good effort, looks hard! You got any issues with rain and vented bonnet?

nope none at all. i toyed with a few ideas for channeling the water out from the hood. first was ally sheeting underneath like a pan, to drain the water off just by the rad, but this kinda took the whole idea of the vents away and wouldnt let out as much heat. resorted back to the original matting that comes under the hood, used loads of scotchguard on it. whenever it rains, the water runs through the vents hits the matting and runs off by the rad. and it still lets loadsa heat out, like they say function over form. on a hot day i can literally see the heat waves rising from the bonnet.

when summer properly sets, i can remove the matting just for the added cooling, and being able to see inside the engine bay

edit: i've been using this hood for almost a year, it took the worst during winter, with monsoon type rains, and its still doing me well.
