my mate's dad does bike restorations and that involves a lot of chroming... his website contact page is http://heritageclassicmotorcycles.co.uk/Contact.htm

I'm not sure on prices etc, but if you get hold of him he'll be able to tell you all you need to know. He's based just outside Colchester, so shouldn't be too far for you to travel either

Dude - for the speedo sender you could have used an R32 one - they're cable drive but have the same GB as the CA/SR, we've actually got a spare sender thing hanging around the garage somewhere after Kiruji's RB20 conversion - it fits in the same place as the electric sender but just has a connection for the cable instead

Playworker - I've got it working now lol, but I will have to look at its accuracy though. I'm using the original ratios on the elec speedo sendo, not sure if they would be the same on the cable one.

Well this week I've been working to solve the very bad vibration that starts at around 45mph. I assumed it was the alignment of the engine and gearbox in the car, which I already felt was accurate enough.

So I decided to resit the engine/box in the car which involved a lot more cutting of the floor, and aim for perfect alignment. Took a while, but its done.

However I took the car out and its still doing it

I then jacked the rear of the car up and drove it through the gears up to 80mph with no issues, so I can only assume its the front hubs.

Upon inspection of the front wheels, when I spin them, they're not perfectly round. You can see the wheels bob up and down. So this is either an issue with the wheels themselves, the effect of using spacers with no centre bore, or the studs that I have used are on the piss.

Tomorrow will include more fiddling, I bloody hope I can find the cause.

Sounds like you have found the cause to me

Extended studs and spacers are an engineering in my book. I know lots of people us them but they are not for me. So much so, we compromised on the wheels for our S13, they might not be our first choice of rim but at least there are no spacers

Love this project Something different - well pimp

Cheers dude. Well they bob up and down about 5mm I guess.

Have tried some 15's on the same setup.

Then took it out to try to pass through 45mph. Took it up to 70mph and the problem exists but maybe only by 20%

Before hand I couldn't rag it properly in 1st gear, but have managed a rag in 1st and 2nd.

Gonna have to try a few things tomorrow. Firstly try the wheels on another car with normal studs and no spacers, to identify if there is an issue with them, but there is a visible kink in them

Then bang out the studs, fit new ones with a proper spline to them and try some other known good 17's on there for another rag.

I'm pretty pissed off though, built this car to go fast... and I can't

    That’s way too much eccentricity

Look on the bright side, at least you have found the source. You could have been messing around for weeks trying to find the problem. A build like this takes time and I am sure you will get it sorted

Yeah at least I'm close to finding the problem, and only wasted a week barking up the wrong tree.

Tomorrow will be much more conclusive though.

Tried the wheels on another car. Slight vibration on the steering wheel but nothing too major.

Removed studs, fitted standard ones, wacked on some hubcentric spacers, job done, problem solved...

    Phew...

Lol, eager beaver... Gonna be going to Mallory Park this weekend, but I want to get under the car and retorque the basic things, and most importantly check the new brake lines for leaks. Also got to sort out the gearbox cover, the heat coming through underneath it making it toasty. Damn, also need to blag a day working at home to get it tracked

Been a while since an update, but then I've been a bit lazy to actually do much more

Well it made its first long journey to Mallory Park and back in a constant traffic jam without any hiccups:

Fitted some HID's to see where I'm going (cheers jez):

Fitted a HKS EVC5 on Sunday. Bit difficult finding homes for things with the lovely design of dash:

Oh and there's no longer a massive hole over the top of the gearbox
