Don't see the point tbh. I got the rev counter and speedo working so nothing to be gained. Plus, I like the hideously designed dash

Wouldn't expect it to be. Raymond has to do his one as well doesn't he?

Fortunately I got hold of good pipes from that car Neil and I broke up.

I took the day off from earning a crust to get this turbo inlet pipe welded up.

It's come out better than expected...

Another little job done and out of the way...

So.. 15 months since an update!

Right then... rust. Someone asked me about this car and I forgot I had it. In truth I knew it was there, but just chose to forget it. If this was my only car I wouldn't have motivation issues, but having the Tbird is a problem as it's more fun than getting filthy under a car. I wonder if the Datsun is jealous.

Maybe not now, I have been spending some time on it. A weldathon olympic has been completed.

Once of the major problems of leaving a car outside is rust. Especially on a 30 yrd old motor. I knew this car was a bit of a rusty old crapper underneath when I got it, but boy the tin worm has seriously caught up with it since it was last on the road in 2007 (previously on road in 1997). It's pretty much rusted itself inside out.

Last year I was working underneath it and it occurred to me that it really had got a lot worse. Like oh dear bad. Thing is I've been a tad lazy and even then hadn't been near the car for a year until recently I felt the need to get on with it. First step was to get it down my mates garage at some point...

I've had thoughts of transferring everything over the other coupe, but it seemed a bit of a waste. Worse car's have been repaired.

    So...

The inner sills and outer floor pans were shagged. Not sure how many times this has been repaired in the past. Drivers side has had one repair along the whole length. The passenger side has had at least 2 repairs along it's length judging by the layers of metal.

Yep, I stabbed it with a screwdriver and it's really bad. But it hasn't been in the sea for the last few years I'm sure

    Less rust on the titanic

Lost count of the number of outer sills

    Cut it all away

The floor is a bit weak, so more needed cutting out

The tower was plated up before '97. Hasn't lasted too bad I guess but needs looking at.

So it went to my mates garage. He helped to expedite things along.

New pieces get tacked in. Despite appearing ok the inner part of the sill needed chopping halfway up due to rust infestation inside the channel.

This is the back end of the passenger sill.

Took the wings off to find the front sills ends basically bodged. Nice

Repair involves boxing off the end. The sill sits in behind the wing, so a smaller section was made to fit on the end flush with the bottom of the A pillar.

The inner sills and floor are now in nice shape.

I figured it's a bit cackhanded to have sorted out the rusty sills without tidying the car up. So took the surface rust back on the floor etc.

A friend and I broke up a Datsun last year so I had spare components to sandblast. I've painted these and everything else in POR15. Will finish off with some final protection once I know it's all finally assembled.

Standard 910 subframe bushes are crap. I smashed out the old ones with a few strikes of a club hammer. Poly bushes were going to cost £140 from Whiteline, so a DB Power got an extrusion of polybush and made them up for me. Not as smart as the proper ones, but they work and much cheaper.

The original bushes have a hat and a base. I decided to get these spun up out of aluminium rather than another piece of poly. Will make things tougher

S15 LSD in S12 case. Tidied this up and a bit of paint:

Whiteline in Australia are great. They list all dimensions of their bushes with a nice search engine, so got hold of these:

Getting the old ones out was two stages. Get the rubber bit out first which leaves the old out shell inside the arm. These are really hard to get out. I sweated.

Getting new ones in was comparatively easy

I got new shoes and wheel cylinders for the back and all fitted:

Datsun rear shoes vs Tbird rear shoes:

This is how it looks now:

I 'might' replace the brake and fuel lines to make them tidier, but I'm a functional type so I'll have to be feeling a bit odd to do that...

Just literally got a driveshaft cut, shut and sleeved to test out the LSD. Once I'm certain of the length I'll buy one from recoprop. I'll assemble the driveshafts this weekend and that's the back end all nicely refreshed.

    Then on to the front...

Unless coupes are in amongst the "missing" as well or got called something else then there are none left on road and only 3 sorn. Or there are some hidden away that got taken off the road before sorn came in.

    And two auto "SSS"
    http://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle...ebird_sss_auto

So it was very much worth saving.

The preceding 810 "SSS" model is just as rare.

Cheers guys. Starting to feel interested in this again. I'm happy how the underneath is looking now, considering this was hanging from underneath it, blasting the arms and painting them makes a big difference

Yeah I've got the auto SSS that's always been taxed. The CA one is down as a Bluebird Cpe and the auto is down as Bluebird SSS Auto.
I suspect some coupes were just registered as Bluebird GL.

So glad your bringing this car back to life. especially after now seeing just how rare it actually is.
