I see a jack and some axle stands, but no tools?
I demand more evidence, looks staged
Crikey that jack is huge!!!!
So when do you see yourself finishing this?
No seriously, I bolted in the gearbox properly, and then removed the prop. Also fitted the shifter and then had a cup of tea and a KFC. I then washed the car for the first time in 15 months.
Gonna have to get it done this year. There isn't much left to do really
Well keep at it, it'll be good to see it finished.
That's what I keep telling myself anyway. Mine is currently sitting in the air (has been since Jan) while I sort the underneath... kind of wish I hadn't bothered.
WHat engine is in there now ? Have to admit I've not been paying attention for a while.
looks like you just jacked it up and took pictures
I had a CA18DET in there to start with and have now put a new improved one in.
Lol, I only took pics coz i thought it was funny how high it was. Couldn't get the front any higher as it bottomed out on the back. I didn't want to get the back any higher coz I got scared.
450bhp should be on the cards I hope. Yeah I need to find some lorry axle stands or something
Your jack rocks my socks.
I shit the bed on Sunday and decided to do something on the Datsun
No, seriously...
First job was to investigate the deal with these 280zx driveshafts. I wanted to hybrid together some shafts for this S15 diff.
So first job was to find an old early S12 driveshaft with the pain-in-the-arse-non-serviceable CV joints. Basically you have to cut them open with a saw and write them off I didn't want to do this to the 280ZX driveshafts first off as they're rare as rocking horse poo.
So I've opened it up and wanted to sure if it's the same spline count in order to use the S13/4/5 style spider assembly and CV joint. All looks good so far.
So I then pluck up the courage to chop open a 280ZX CV joint. It looks a bit different. Instead of them using a snap ring on the end of the shaft, they use a tool to burr the end of the shaft over. Must have been too expensive to do it properly with a snap ring and a groove in the shaft
So out comes the club hammer and brute force and the spider assembly is off. Cleaned and filed up the shaft end and fit the S15 CV joint cover and slide the spider on. I then used a socket over the end of the shaft and smashed the living daylights out of it to burr the end of the shaft to lock the spider in place.
From when I fitted an S13 diff to an S12 I knew that the CV joints from the S13 make the shaft about 1.5" longer. So I have to use a short shaft to make up the long side.
So then I fitted the diff and the driver side shaft to the car to prove the concept and it all looks good. Definitely too tight to squeeze the shaft in the passenger side, it's too long.
Two ways of sorting this. One way is to get the a shaft shortened . This won't be suitable for any decent power so I'll probably have to get one made up by the likes of Recoprop.
They've quoted roughly £300. If anyone knows of any companies who could do this cheaper then please let me know :thanks:

There is a Scimitar owner who has just dropped a Vauxhall MV6 engine in - he had a prop made up by Propshaft Services Heathrow -worth a call?
Ben - I'll put them down on the list to call.
Voodoo - That's not even at full height lol
yay some progress
Knob But you're right! Would need the step ladder to get in the boot. The bumper was level with my face in that pic
glad to see this project still going as its a great reference point for the future when i work on my bluebird, particularly the suspension side of things
