    Video How to: Gearbox repair

This isnt supposed to be the most technical of guides we arent even sure if we'll manage it. However if we do we hope it will convince a few more people to attempt repairs on gearbox's as most people just buy another ....
If nothing else its worth laughing at us

Part one of the guide is here (28mb - 10mins)
    http://media.sxoc.com/contributors/s...uide_part1.wmv

More parts to come when done, sorry for the bad sound, will renew when I get a decent TV-card rather than one from China via ebay that after some research turns out most people get no sound, or sound interferance when using a seperate sound card (like me).

    You'll need phatbob's guide
    www.vems.co.uk/200sxwiki

and either the S13 or S14 nissan manual

We started with a S14a box I killed last year (suspected mainshaft)
And a S14 gearbox that SparkyHx killed around the same time (suspected input shaft, turned out to be layshaft).
Both had no drive in any gear.

Others have broke where Sparky broke his, Mark was one of them his thread is here.

    Well after having a ....
    ...
moment when it dawned on me how gearboxes work I got all exited and wanted to put another apart. I had a box at martys which I had condemned as scrap after killing 3/4 syncro when on the track.

So on Sunday it got its casing pulled off

1st and 2nd gear seem to look OK.

Humm there seems to be some thing missing with 3rd and 4th...

    Ahhhhhhh, there they are!

    I am a bad man

    Ooops

The thing is I was expecting to see a load of mashed up teeth on 3rd and 4th and I was just ramming it in to gear when on track at Donnington. But all the teeth seem fine

Am I missing something or looking for ware in the wrong places?

It seems the reverce has not had such an easy life in this box!

But I dont remeber doing and 5th to reverce shift so i think this was done before I got this box.

I ripped apart an S12 box for fun the other weekend, and the reverse gear looked the same as that one. When engaging reverse no one ever leaves a few seconds gap between opening the clutch and selecting the gear.

Gonna strip the box a little more, I only managed to get a few gears off, but I need to try to undo a rather large nut on the other end of the mechanism

Hmm you appear to have pulled more metal than me out of the box, well done... thought mine was totally feked
Honestly, i dont know where it came from but seeing lumps of mangled cog come out doesnt make you feel all warm inside, never mind, still filled it back up and hashed seven shades out of it at crail.....

You've chewed up the bronze alloy rings up nicely.
I'd not expect to see gear damage, they tend to exist in a binary state: broken or not broken.

Reverse gears often look like that, replace with a less eaten one.

Strong £ to $ means that a visit here:
    http://www.drivetrain.com//transmanu...it.html#NISSAN

    Would be on the cards.

For some reason, when I looked at the title of the thread I was sure it said GLOVEBOX... I was wondering how you can make a 10 minute video on repairing the glovebox

Very useful thread Kev - maybe it should be in the stickies

Well, gearbox gfot fitted to the S13, all seemed well. 100 miles, no issues.

Full throttle run though all the gears changing at the redline ... and it stuck in third/neutral. Some wiggling of the lever and I got the other gears. However second was shot.
Changed the oil, found a piece of syncro .. more testing, 2nd and third shot.

Changed to the "other" box, and that has 4 working gears from 5 .. no 4th So if you see me slow at japfest shortly after changing from 3rd to 5th you'll know why

Out of interest SM, have you used standard parts to rebuild?

Yep, from the 2 boxes, not even new bearings.
