What goes on in your actual garage then Pete?
Still loads to do like remove engine and box, sort engine bay, remove and respray front suspension.
Garage door has been sealed up and it’s full of my stuff for work

Ahh right, wandering why the garage never gets a mention!I'd be lost without mine! Also just had this fitted

You only need two tools in life - wd-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the wd-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

And if you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem!

Loads of progress today Using paint stripper and soaking in Deox C massively reduces the amount of time needed to blast clean parts. Oh and Deox C does remove paint. Those particles are Electro coat

More of the same - carbon canister bracket straight out of the Deox tank

Only took a minute to blast off any bits of paint

Couldn’t fit the bumper bracket in the Deox tank and it took ages to blast this rust off

Again these were dipped in Deox, after rinsing I heated them up with a fan heater to remove any moisture inside the seam.

I now have a load of parts in primer, just need another good day to lash some black on

Used gel on the arch liner rivets

    Brushed primer on

I thought you were using the local lake for deox-ing your bigger parts

A wheelie bin would make a good sized dip tank

Car parts have been banned from the house

Got loads painted today in between showers. When spraying parts I usually wire and hold them. Hanging on a bar seems to make life a bit easier

Same to support the bumper insert

    PAS pump bracket

    Air con pump bracket

    Carbon canister holder

    Fog light brackets

    Fuel filter holder

    ABS bracket

Close up. Apologies for the poor pics, struggling with the exposure.

The original plan was to get rid of the rust and generally tidy it up but as you can imagine, one thing leads to another. I stripped everything from the back end and refurbished it so I am going to have to do the same at the front. If half the parts were refurbished in the engine bay, it would make the rest look a mess. So yes the engine and box is coming out

I didn’t intend having any of the blue paintwork refinished in an attempt to keep the car “sort of original” but that’s gone out of the window now Since the bonnet it coming off that will be resprayed along with the sideskirts, front wings, door handles and rear bumper. At least these will be painted off the car so there is no blending in or masking up

Edit: Is it easier to take the engine and box out as one? If so, please don’t tell me I need to remove the prop Can I pull the engine and box forwards to allow the front of the prop to come out of the back of the box?

    Thanks
    Pete

I'd say drop the box down first. Just undo the middle bracket for the prop and it'll slide out of the box, no problem. Fantastic work as always!

Gear box comes off easy, just split the prop, (mark it up if it hasnt be marked already, to get it back together in the same place.) Once you've done it once you'll realise how easy it is really.

    Hey Pete,

A couple of questions.. firstly.. if you are painting panels off the car.. won't you get a mismatch in colour? As i understand it metallics are very hard to get a 100% match on, hence painters tend to blow into neighbouring panels so u cannot see an obvious difference in shade. I had the front half of my saph blue s14a painted and it is a bit darker then the original shade..

    Secondly...

When you did the back half of the car, did your have a look under your cd changer? I found that when i took mine out and change it, the bolt holes were quite rusty and one if the locator threads came out with the bolt

Keep up the great work! I am sure 80% of the board if not more envy you

Thanks for the info on the prop

I know very little about spraying metallics. A friend of mine owns a top notch bodyshop and I was just going to drop the panels off. I will ask him about it.

I didn’t take the CD changer out but will do next time the car is out. Thanks for the heads up

My concerns as well Pete... I would seriously not advise repainting the wings on own...
