    Which mechanic gloves?

    Hi guys,

Any of you lot using mechanic gloves when messing around with the engine and other mechanical bits? If so, which do you use?

My brother had a pair of Snap-on gloves, but they were worn badly very quick.

Was thinking about buying a pair of Sparco's, since sparco isn't an uknown brand in automotive clothing etc. etc.

    Any ideas?

Best just using latex gloves. Disposable, cheap and you don't have to worry about getting them covered in crap all the time.

    I use these: http://rswww.com/cgi-bin/bv/rswww/se...0&cacheID=ukie

Better than latex IMO as they allow your hands to breathe

    Ansell Hyflex

    Link

I use the ones on the left. (white with grey fingers). They last for ages. I've had mine over a year and a half now, washed them 3 times and they still have grip etc. What i do now though is use cheap laytex gloves under the Ansell ones so the soaked up oil etc doesn't end up on my hands through the gloves. Or just use laytex for quick jobs, but anything oily or petrol based, i use both.

Latex gloves for light jobs and a pair of £1.49 Rigger gloves from the local supermarket.
I wouldn't spend much on a pair of gloves as once they've touched gearbox oil they're ruined

How do they handle all the oil and coolant fluid ? (gearbox oil, diff oil) and all the other dirty crap that comes with dirty engines?

Fine. No degradation. Like i said i use mine almost every weekend on things and i'm on the same pair since over a year and a half ago. Only washed 3 times. Slight discolouration i.e. they're yellowy now instead of white, but no loss of grip etc. Warm too in the winter!

    Mechanix wear.

they do get ****ed up badly but better than your hands! Need one pair just for gearbox oil.

I use them all the time on race cars. More for heat protection/keeping hands clean on oily bits, as delicate jobs best done without gloves.

you will still have scratches when using latex gloves....

I cant even work with gloves. Dont have that much feelin in my fingertips. Even with latex-lover-gloves its hard to feel nuts in me fingers and stuff like that
