Install pics for my 200sx boot (56k have a nice day)

Recently managed to get an IDMAX as I have decided that I have had enough of booming bass and wanted to go further down the SQ route. As the ID loves IB I thought I would give it a go. Problem is the boot of my 200sx has other ideas.

Fortunatly so do I so this is how far I have got and will keep updating the thread as I go along. I have no idea how it will sound in the end……………….

First up, this is how the boot looked before with my 2 Crystals

And this is the boot once it has been gutted (yes I know it is just flashing tape that I used)

As the sub is too large to mount on the parcel shelf so I deided to make a baffle board and seal it from the front using loads of flashing tape and expanding foam. Trying to screw it down was a problem cos of the fuel tank.

Here is a few pics of it being built up.

Next up was a way to mount the sub so that I could remove it easily so went for a mounting ring option. The sub is mounted to the ring using M5 nuts and blots and the ring to the baffle with M8 bolts tightened to the baffle with sunk nuts.

And here is the sub mounted

Next up is mounting of the amps. As I have been without a spare wheel for so long and the fact it is useless anyway as I have front brakes to large for 16” alloys now I decided to bung the amps here and try to give myself as much boot space as possible.

and with it mounted in the car

So far this has taken me 4 days of work spread over the last month as don’t have much time to work on it and have to drive to my parents to do anything as I live in a thieving scum area. Hoping that tomorrow if the weather is good I can get it wired up to test it!

After that there will be lots of finishing work going on and I need to move the battery to the boot as will be fitting a front mount intercooler soon!!!!!

    Looking good!
I don't know much about the ID subs, is that an infinite baffle sub you're using or were you planning on sealing the aperture behind the rear seat to enclose it?

Stu - There are 2 Genny amps, a DM200 and an older version of the SM60.

theminiking - The sub is running IB. I wanted to try it out as i have been through the ported and sealed enclosures. A 200sx does not lend itself kindly to doing IB though.

James - It can be done

I had it running for the first time today (wiring took an age and a half). It sounds excellent but i am sure that there is some more refinement to come.

Ok, latest pic with the amp rack trimmed and installed.

I have had a play with the EQ settings a bit. For a sub running infinate baffle the ID can drop like mad.

Yup, In all it is an SQ system. The bass integrates well into the rest of the system.

Feel free to have a listen anytime.

Cool, I've read all this through now, and it's a fantastic idea, and looks well done. I don't know if I've got the balls to permanantly 'foam' something in as large as the baffle you have, but kudos for doing it

    A few questions for you:

    - How did you seal from the top of the sub to the parcel shelf? I'm not sure how I would have done it, as the boot springs run right the way across the shelf.

    - What did you do about the rear quarters venting into the boot above the rear wheel arches? Expanding foam in there too?

Awesome install I don't think i could use up all my boot spacethough

You only need two tools in life - wd-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the wd-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

And if you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem!
